re: What can the SEC do to try to reclaim its former glory? Is it declining like Rome?

I’m saying the national perception that they have so many great teams and that the league schedule being murderers row is a myth and fueled by ESPN propaganda. Look at the rankings all season. Look at these turd squads that were ranked. Vandy was not that good, got manhandled by Iowa and got back in it by chucking up 50 yard jump balls. South Carolina was ranked, Florida, LSU. Some ranked very high.
They got 5 teams in the playoff and two of the next 3 out were SEC teams. They could have had 3 teams in the final four mathematically, got 1, and will likely fail to have a team in the final. This is the league I am supposed to believe fielded 7 of the best 14 teams. It’s comically overhyped.

Yes, but not at the expense of dealing with juggernaut Bama or Georgia teams on the reg. Not at the expense of seeing A&M and Ole Miss rise to their levels. Screw the SEC. They hosed LSU against Auburn in 06, Bama in 09, and pimped the Bama rematch in 2011. They pimped Bama for the playoffs as much as possible when it was needed.
I don’t care about the SEC reputation. It’s never going to sink down to Big 12 or ACC levels, so the quality win factor will never take a huge hit.

Peak SEC dominance revolved around running the ball and playing defense. SEC football today, besides UGA, reminds me of late aughts/early teens PAC 10 football where everyone was scoring 40 points and no defense was played.
Indiana is basically what SEC teams looked like 15 years ago.

Why do i care if Alabama or Texas or UGA, or UF are good. I hope they all fail every year.
There isn't a damn thing that's helpful to LSU if Alabama beats Indiana, so why the hell would i ever want other SEC teams to win?
Amen

Could not care any less about the "strength" of the SEC and the collective chest beating of teams who suck claiming they suck less because of the conference they are in. It's always been one or two elite teams, who have changed over the years, that let conferences middle tier and bottom feeders feel superior.
All that matters to me is when/if LSU can adapt to this current era of CFB, which so far, they've proven they can't despite everyone acting like they have the money to do so.
I will happily contradict myself when it comes to ND though. Those frickers wouldn't last 1 season in the SEC or any conference for that matter.

Alabama Rushing to end their year...a combined LESS than 1-yard per attempt in their last 3 games.
- 3 yards
28 yards
23 yards
Everyone knew they were dogshite in the trenches but still let the memory of them into these Playoffs. You can't win it all in CFB if you can't run the ball.
So many SEC teams are a shell of themselves, the public and media needs their eyeballs to see what is the product in front of them now, instead of watching today's CFB through old assumptions. I mean Indiana was drastically better than Alabama, EVERYWHERE on the field.

but yet they win against schedules with as many P4 teams as you'd find in a conference

Stop poaching coaches and players like mercenaries…LSU is exhibit A.

NIL/unlimited portal has leveled the field

By design. NIL/unlimited transfers was instituted specifically to dismantle the stranglehold on Southeastern talent being sequestered to the SEC/Clemson/FSU’s and to regain national appeal for more eyeballs.
It won’t last however as Congress sees the utter mess that has become and will pass legislation in the next few years I believe. Boosters will eventually stop spending $20-30 million on rosters full of 1 year mercenaries who opt out and don’t really give a shite when it counts.
The post before about collective bargains is spot on and the NCAA being given teeth by Congress. That will allow the SEC to regain its inherent advantages it had before (the reason for its dominance to begin with).

Saban retired. A huge amount of the success that was attributed to the SEC was just one guy who happened to coach an SEC team kicking everyone’s arse. Naturally when he retires the SEC’s dominance takes a hit.

A lot of it is scheme and roster construction and bad coaching. There’s a reason 7 head coaches turned over this off season.

Absolutely nothing, all anyone watches is SEC football, no one else is even remotely close. SEC is college football.

Nothing, really
If any conference is to dominate the next 20 years the way the SEC did the last 20, it would be the Big ten
More $

Sounds good. Now tell me why the players would ever agree to collectively bargain and agree to such a thing. Why would they? It's the Wild West and the players have all the freedom to do what they want and maximize their rewards. What is in it for them to collectively bargain for restrictions?
Collectively bargaining could ultimately lead to players receiving shares/percentages of tv and conference revenue. Not just NIL
