I think it's a little misguided to push this as "Girls can do anything" moment.

Regardless of the execution of the kick. She was a scholarship athlete in the SEC. Everything she did prior to even dressing out for the football team is something 99% of girls can't do. Even 99% of girls who want to do that.

It's not "girls can do anything", it's "if you are an elite athlete in one sport, someone might give you a chance in another."

Wut.

So when they list the stats to justify pick per usual, do they simply mention her vagina?

Even before the game, and without regard to the outcome of her participation, I think it's dumb for feminists to hitch their wagon to this situation.

What if something happened in that play? Say she kicks it better and everyone turns around. Then they come back and a guy gets confused and BLOWS HER UP!!!?

Didn't she run straight to the sideline after she kicked it...?

Basically. Her chances of getting hit was almost zero unless someone from the other team made it a point to hit her before she made it to the sideline.

She took the opening kickoff of the second half against the Tigers, as her perfectly-executed kick sailed 30 yards and was downed at the Missouri 35-yard line.

why do you guys let this shite bother you so much?

The same reason people get bothered by a small lump of cancer cells. If you don't eradicate it as soon as it pops up, it will metastasize into something far worse.

Okay. This is ridiculous. It was a good story to begin with. But it’s getting out of hand with the pandering.

This is why most men don’t take women’s sports seriously.

A girl kicks it 90 feet and the world goes nuts.

I am glad the coach was fired the next day.

If she had cancer or some sort of other deadly disease, then yeah I can see making this a big deal. But just a regular woman who could barely kick it 30 yards and we're making her look like a martyr? This is beyond ridiculous and it's pathetic the ESPN's of the world are acting like she is Jesus Christ because of this.

Time Magazine Person of the Year is more appropriate, IMO.

Very special teams, like short bus?

I didn’t know that a kicker who only does FGs / XPs could win that honor for not scoring a single solitary point.

Is this kind of blatant pandering really empowering for women?

You'd think it would be humiliating. She's an accomplished soccer player yet her biggest achievements in life are all being overshadowed by the worst kick of the weekend in the SEC.

Let’s not demean Vandy that much by having them associated with Time.
