What if something happened in that play? Say she kicks it better and everyone turns around. Then they come back and a guy gets confused and BLOWS HER UP!!!?

Who is at fault? Player? Coaches?

That's why they made her kick it like that, they didn't want her to get blown up. Which is ironic considering the "everyone can do it message." Can't allow a return, and you know she can't get a touch back, so you do what they did.

Imagine if it got returned and she got hit, that poor player would be cancelled.

Y’all remember that futurama episode where leela is playing that future version of baseball? And she’s the first female and she’s basically just a sideshow act because she sucks? And there’s a woman who is actually good and trying to make it to the majors and hates her for it?

That’s what this makes me think of.

No it wasn't. From the start this has been a story about some perfectly capable kid getting robbed of a scholarship opportunity at a prestigious school like Vanderbilt because they want to give a spot to someone who cannot perform anywhere near the level needed to earn that spot legitimately for virtue signal points and cheap publicity.

Mizzou should have grabbed it and ran it back instead of laying on it. If she runs to the sidelines you have a helmet for each of their blockers and you get an easy TD

ehhh. At the beginning it was fine. First woman to play blah blah blah. But the ensuing coverage and finding out that she wasn't good enough to begin with made it a shite show.

No it wasn’t. The “story” was that Vandy had no one left to kick, so they turned to her. But the fact of the matter, they had punters (and likely other players) that had kicking experience and would have done a better job than her.

But instead they went with the publicity stunt route

If Vandy wasn't so shitty she may have had more than one kick.

She was terrible and certainly not capable of helping the team in any way, yet let's name her special teams player of the week in the most difficult conference in college football. So stupid.

This is the ridiculous hypocrisy in all of this. If she would've actually performed like a normal Male athlete and was subsequently demolished, the entire world would be bashing that Male athlete for simply doing his job.

I hope no one's grandma is ravaged by walk-on female kickers.

I think it's a little misguided to push this as "Girls can do anything" moment. Regardless of the execution of the kick. She was a scholarship athlete in the SEC. Everything she did prior to even dressing out for the football team is something 99% of girls can't do. Even 99% of girls who want to do that. It's not "girls can do anything", it's "if you are an elite athlete in one sport, someone might give you a chance in another."

Okay?

ETA: I'm not sure I understand your angle. I'm saying it's dumb to make this as big a deal as it has been made without regard to what she actually did on the football field.

Why half-arse it and name her a co-player of the week and not just the player of the week. Since the SEC is going to milk this for as long as they can.
