As a spectator, I like the look of the course. Would love to play it. As far as the greens go, it looks just like Pebble Beach except its not green in color.

As far as the players bitching.....they bitch about the conditions of US Open courses yearly.

They are spoiled.......they play the best courses in the world under the best conditions weekly.

The scoring this year does not appear to be out of line with historical Open scores. As a consumer I like it.

Gary Player ripped this course a new a-hole...how weird it's playing and its selection. And just like I said, he said picking a damn British Open clone course for the US Open is stupid.

I really like the course as well and would love to play it.

The greens are similar to Pebble except they probably roll a couple slower than Pebble on the stimp because of the fescue base, which is also responsible for the color.

Poa is used everywhere on the west coast and players bitch about it everywhere.

I prefer to see scores around Even to +1 win a US open, but I think by the end of the week this will be close. The only scoring I hate in a US Open is a farce like we saw at Congressional where the USGA had absolutely no defense for the golf course in case of rain.

why? I enjoy playing courses for the aesthetics and history. This course has no history until now, but it certainly has aesthetics.

Actually this course is prettier than any of the BO courses.....just doesn't have the history.

So who thinks Phillip has a low one in him if he can figure out the surface areas around the holes?

He's done. Complained too much yesterday after backing up. He's now got excuses to suck.

Or he kicks arse out there today

This is shaping up to be a great weekend. I love the course. The approach shots require complete precision. Its a fantastic test for these pampered douches.

The guys on TGC are backtracking at times. They're complaining but then they admit they don't know everything that is taken into account for the course setup.

They know they're being babies but they're trying to spin a story.

This par 5 to par 4 talk is BS. I guess everyone forgets they dropped a par 5 to 4 at Pebble.

Early scoring looking difficult

17 guys have played at least one hole with the first man out thru 8

Best scores are Poulter and Walker -1 thru 3

Two guys are +4 thru 4 and 6 respectively.

Will only get tougher as the day goes on.

The margin of error is small and the course really punishes hard for even a shot that only misses the spot by a few feet. But it's definitely US Open worthy IMO. And I like how the courses really changes as the day goes on.

I fully expect anyone at Even after today will be tied 9th or 10th (17th now) and only 4 or 5 back. At worst 7 back and 4 or 5 out of 2nd.

A lot can happen this weekend.

I know I could never play a course like this or even make a triple on any hole. But I like the fact that the course is really set like a US Open course.

Greens are tough, distance control, shaping, and basic management is needed.

I guess these "experts" are forgetting what the last few opens were like.

As I stated earlier they want a John Deere Classic course for a major that is traditionally the most murderous course.

They drop par 5s to par 4s at most US Opens I believe. I'm almost positive they do it at Torrey and Congressional, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did it at others to make it a tougher test. I think the big issue with this one is there isn't a landing area at 18 to make it a par 4. It's maybe 5-6 yards wide and that's a pretty ridiculous ask of even the best players in the world, unless you want to leave yourself 250 in.
