Maybe they think this is the 80s and they can go back to being an independent.

What becomes of Oregon State and Wazzou? I'm going on the assumption that the B1G probably packs up Stanford and Cal with Oregon and Washington because that conference loves to brag about academics.

Mountain west is the only option right? If the conference dissolves around them, I wonder who they try to sue for the financial damages. The PAc-12 TV payout alone is currently $21 million per school, Mountain West is $4 million. That's an incredible financial loss if they can't find a taker.

If enough schools leave that membership in the conference drops below 7, it either dissolved or has to recruit other schools to replace them.

The WAC went through this several years ago teams bolting en masse and the last ones standing deciding to go independent or drop to FCS.

MWC is their only option.

Or try to keep the Pac alive as they only schools left. This would ensure they split the exit fees from all the schools that will have to pay to leave.

Could net a hefty chunk of change if the other schools don'tont vote to dissolve the conference lol.

WAZZU had some fun gears with Leach and in the early 00s. And OSU has some good years in 06/07 with the brother duo they had. Sad times indeed.

If it’s a majority (7/9) of PAC schools looking to leave, they might be able to change things like exit fees on the way out, or the conference officially dissolving once it goes under a certain number, kicking Oregon St and Wash St to independence or the MWC while ensuring that they don’t own the PAC intellectual property (so that a lower level PAC can’t trade off its P5 name with G5 schools)

Gonna even stink worse at sports with no money.

Going back to Idaho/Montana levels.

Funny, charter member Oregon Agricultural College and Wazzu joined the PAC (PCC) before USC, UCLA and Stanford.

Funnily enough, the PAC was historically at the forefront of NIL and National Conferences 80 years ago.

quote:

Following "pay-for-play" scandals at California, USC, UCLA, and Washington, the PCC disbanded in June 1959.

When the four schools and Stanford began discussions for a new conference in 1959, and considered creating a national "power conference" Nicknamed the "Airplane Conference," the five former PCC schools would have played with other major academically-oriented schools, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Notre Dame, Pitt, Penn State, and Syracuse.

The effort fell through when a Pentagon official vetoed the idea and the service academies backed out.

Cal
USC
UCLA
Washington
Stanford
Notre Dame
Army
Navy
Air Force
Syracuse
Penn State
Pitt

That 12 school Conference wouldve been wild for 1960, let alone now.

With the PAC being raped into oblivion and possibly not existing in a couple of weeks, it presents a good opportunity for the Mountain West to corner the market on late night football.

Adding Oregon State/ Wazzu also improves their product. This is a dream scenario for them.

I wouldn’t be shocked if oregon state gets a call from the big 12. As an athletic program they’re not Washington state bad. If they can hold on to their current football coach they’d be quite the football/baseball tandem and good at a few non revenue sports. They’re worthless in basketball though.

Going to be wild to see the incoming budget cuts of the schools that will be left behind.

second tier late night football

Basically you’ll have a 6 team B1G pod of USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Washington, and Oregon

I feel legit bad for people in these athletic departments. It’s going to be a blood bath with budget cuts there. I imagine a lot of these schools also extended themselves out financially with the assumption they’d be in a P5 conference for a lot longer given the insanity of the CFB arms race in the 2010s-now

Why does the big10 want Cal?

They bring absolutely nothing in the sports that matter

Oregon and Washington are going to the B1G. Just a matter of time.

I’d think the B1G would want Notre Dame, Virginia and North Carolina first over Clemson and Florida State.

At this rate, the B1G will have like 30 teams. Seems silly. Revenue will be split up, teams will not be playing each other for years, etc.

The SEC isn’t going anywhere. That’s the difference. You would have massive lawsuits if any conference tried to kick an institution out just because “they don’t bring in as much as this other program”.
