Plain Dealing High School generally has anywhere from 12 to 15 kids play. This has been going on for a few years.
Guess these are all candidates for losing and for kids not wanting to play.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but a big part of a lack of commitment to football has nothing to do with fear of concussions and everything to do with how easy other hobbies are.
Gone are the days where a kid is willing to go through the daily grind only to play scout team and not see the field on Fridays. Kids are quitting if they aren’t starting now more than ever.

It won’t there is a bigger crisis in coaching than there is in officiating. ESPECIALLY at the youth level. The worst parents are in youth sports too

That is a good point, as teachers, coaches, etc are all undervalued and demeaned. On this board, some of the comments make me wonder whether they are even fans of sports.

For me it was the 2-3 hour practices 4 nights a week for a 9yo. Tack on homework and it just didnt work out.
Oh well, we found other sports and activities that were way more fun.

You may want to google Madison Prep or Scotlandville football. Now that ever school is magnet, no one has to live in the area to play for the better teams.
Many other HS are barely fielding a team as their would-be players are instead attending the better football schools.

I literally do not know a single kid that does this, and i have a 14 and 12 year old.
They all play at least 2 sports, and the vast majority are playing 3.
It's not difficult at all to play soccer or football in the fall, basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring, and you can easily substitute one of those for something else like swimming, track, cross country, tennis, golf, lacrosse.

My neighbor has a grandson on an 8 man team in Lafayette. Thats all I got. Said enrollment at that private school dictates that. I didn't know that was a thing in LA

I just find it ridiculous that everyone expects to have their kids competing for athletic scholarships and being a pro. Focus on real shite and raise your kids. Let them have fun in hobbies.

It’s not just making it to the big leagues. Even fricking middle school demands it.
Our basketball and soccer middle school coaches ask on the tryout form what competitive leagues kids played in when they were younger. In the MB/Vestavia area, Academy soccer starts taking kids around 7. It’s expensive, time consuming, and exclusive (you have to tryout for it).
They’re pretty much only going to consider those kids for the school teams going into middle school and high school.

I am 65 and I still remember how miserable that was. I got fed up with the glory hounds who actually got to touch the football.
