They replaced their best peremiter defender with 9x all-defensive team player Chris Paul, who was also first team all defense this season.
I don't think people realize that

Patrick Beverly guarded the best perimeter player most games. Paul doesn't. Chris is undersized but is very elite at playing the passing lanes.
If anyone thinks that Chris is better than Patrick they are very wrong.

More stars = better chance of success because it's doubtful that all 3 would have an off night or get shut down by the opponent.
This is why everyone is chasing Golden State. They have 5 guys that can go off.

It was usually Ariza who guarded the best player. Beverley would only guard the best player if that player is a PG, but Ariza even sometimes guarded PG's too.
And people outside of Houston probably think Beverley is better than he is. Don't get me wrong, we love Beverley. But we love him because he hustles so hard.
This year he actually was a pretty good defender. But he often makes people think he's a better defender than he actually is because he hustles so much on defense and puts so much pressure on the ball.
We talk Beverley up on here, but this has been a discussion among Rockets fans for years.

I've always said that Beverley does more for team defense than his own individual defense. Dude just ramps up the energy and can get into the head of players on the other team.
He is definitely valuable. But Morey realized we were losing that defensive intensity guy, and he signed PJ Tucker right away.

Draymond, but i don't see a 5th guy.

quote:Yeah, like I said, I love what Beverley brings. But I find people who don't watch the Rockets regularly think he's a lockdown defender and it's not quite the truth.

And I don't know what 5th guy he's talking about either.

I love that you used Eric Gordon as your example, because it can't be nitpicked, since Gordon is actually more likely to go off than Draymond.

Swaggy P is going to be so frustrating to watch. He will do well, and he will celebrate constantly.

Let's just sign Rondo and be on with it

Green had 1 good year shooting, otherwise he's average at best. I can live with him taking the shot over the other 3.
Last 3 years:
44.3/33.7/66.0
49.0/38.8/69.6
41.8/30.8/70.9
career:
43.5/33.4/69.5
Yeap, I'm daring him to "go off". I'll live with the consequencecs

He's going to throw up some games where's he's 7-9 with 21 on 5 threes because every shot will be wide open. It will be hilarious and sad

the one finals game that GSW lost was partly because the cavs keep leaving DG open for threes and he kept missing them at key times
What exactly does Melo do for the rockets? He is more of an ISO player and midrange jump shooter, they need that? Can Melo be a consistent spot up three point shooter? He will get tons of open looks with harden and CP driving and dishing

Aron Baynes opted out of his 6.5 mill player option with Detroit and has signed a 4.3 one year deal with the Cs.

Carmelo shot 42.6% on spot up threes last year. Ryan Anderson shot 42.7%. Considering how much more offensive game Melo brings in addition, that is huge.
If you have ever watched Melo play for Team USA, it is clear that he can really get in the zone when playing spot-up shooter around other superstars.
