He's going to get much cleaner looks with Harden and Paul as well.

quote:Yea, I thought the Cavs should have done that more, just play 10 feet off of him at the 3 point line. If he wants to shoot 10-15 3s every game in the Finals, you take that and you're good with whatever happens.
Yeap, I'm daring him to "go off". I'll live with the consequencecs

I have pretty much convinced myself that Melo is going to destroy for us. I just hope the deal actually gets done. Taking forever.

quote:He's fantastic off the ball in the Olympics. If he buys in, he'll do well in that offense with tons of open looks.
What exactly does Melo do for the rockets?
quote:I'm very interested to see that 1 part of how CP3(and if Melo joins) both being high volume midrange guys, and how that plays out in Houston.
He is more of an ISO player and midrange jump shooter, they need that?
I think the Spurs series proved that maybe completely eliminating the midrange jumper from the strategy wasn't the right way to go.

As long as everyone accepts their role I think it will work very well. That's a big if though.

Harden is the best player on the team, but he'll have to allow CP3 to do what CP3 does, which is yell at him lol. If Harden doesn't handle that well, there could be issues. I don't think there's a player in the league that Paul would give up the reigns of leading a team for, not even Lebron. Chris Paul will be the leader of that team, and as usual, he'll do so very vocally.

If a player can hit the midrange at a high percentage, they have no problem with that player taking that shot.
The Rockets' whole philosophy is taking efficient shots. Those who shoot efficiently from the midrange are given a green light. It's just that most players aren't given that green light. Chris Paul would have that green light.
I'm not sure if Carmelo would, but he might.

quote:Yeah. In fact, when Lebron and Carmelo were competing for rookie of the year, it became apparent that Carmelo was a scorer who relied on others to set him up to maximize that scoring.
If you have ever watched Melo play for Team USA, it is clear that he can really get in the zone when playing spot-up shooter around other superstars.
I don't think it was a coincidence that he had his most success in Denver when Chauncey was arguably the most important player.
In other words, I think despite being an elite scorer and a great player overall, he's best when he's truly off the ball and not the sole focus of the off-season (like in the Olympics).
Granted, at this point, he's probably well past his prime and not a very good defender, so his value isn't what it used to be, but he could probably be a pretty valuable 3rd or 4th option if it works out.

Don't see how anyone can deny the fact that if Melo joins the Rockets they will become one of the few (maybe only) teams with the legit offensive firepower to go toe-to-toe with GS every night.
Questions will be defense and rebounding.

Let's see who they send out first before we say they have the same firepower to compete with GS.

quote:Because Carmelo most likely doesn't move the needle that much, especially since it was already a good offense regardless. Besides, with the way GSW improved in the playoffs, when starters got more minutes, I'm not really sure any team possesses the firepower to match that. Besides, with the Nick Young addition, the Warriors probably offset the Carmelo addition, at least offensively (Young is really bad defensively).

In other words, sans any major injuries, Houston and everybody else is unlikely to give GSW any major problems in a 7 game series.

GSW has such a fun and flashy form of offensive basketball that people forget that they are a damn good defensive team as well and that's just as much a reason as why they've been as successful as they have
Posted on 7/10/17 at 7:15 pm to buckeye_vol
quote:They were good in the regular season. They were streaky in the playoffs because the entire team hinged on James Harden. The playoffs are all about star power. If they had Harden, Paul, and Carmelo, they now have 3 legit scoring options instead of 1. Much less likely all 3 have off nights so it makes their great offense much more consistent and more difficult for teams to stop.

The Rockets improved on defense this offseason. I'm not saying they are on Golden State's level defensively because they were one of the top defensive teams, but the Rockets could get into the top 10 this upcoming season.

Kenny Smith on Melo to HOU: "If he played with the Rockets, the second or third best defender would guard him. He would kill those guys."

I (@ethanrothstein) was sitting right in front of Woj, overheard him say a Melo deal is likely tonight. FWIW.. Good ears, E.

Crawford to the Wolves. Damn they will be fun to watch

They will be a nightmare if it all clicks
