What do you think are the top 5 biggest, most well known, and iconic brands — team and/or individual — in American sports?

The only one immediately off the top of my head that isn’t debatable is the New York Yankees. I assume you all would agree.

What about the other 4? Dallas Cowboys? Green Bay Packers? Texas Longhorns? LA Lakers?

Colleges are regional brands

If you were gonna pick one college as a brand though it would probably be Notre Dame

Slipped my mind. You’re probably right with ND, but I feel like certain schools (Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Miami - “The U”) are bigger brands than most realize.

What about the Steelers?

Looks like the OP is talking about teams/franchises and not other things like apparel/equipment brands. So...

Yankees
Cowboys
Lakers

(I think those three are pretty clearly the top brands of the top 3 American sports and are clearly in any top 5 list. Cowboys is hilarious to me because they have sucked for so long)

After that, it's hard not to go with a couple more NFL teams as the NFL is such a behemoth compared to NBA and MLB. The next NFL teams that jump to mind are the Packers and Patriots (although I think the Patriots brand will fade post-Tom Brady/Belicheck era, but there is no denying they became arguably the 2nd biggest brand in the NFL for nearly two decades).

Golden State Warriors in basketball is absolutely huge with younger generation. My son is 11, lives in Atlanta, and Warriors jerseys/favorite team is clearly second to Hawks around here. Not the Lakers, not the Celtics.

I don't think a second MLB team makes it into the top 5 but if there is one that has an argument it is the Dodgers.

based on worth

1) cowboys
2) patriots
3) Rams
4) Yankees
5) NY Giants

based on just the brand

1) Cowboys
2) Yankees
3) Lakers
4) Red Sox or dodgers
5) Patriots

ftr the knicks are worth a good bit more than the lakers. Dodgers worth more than red soxs too.

in general....NFL franchises then soccer are worth much more than other sports.
