Holder wasn't let go, the "stay tuned" makes me think he's going to the Athletic. Maybe the same with Guillory.

I can’t imagine the Athletic would hire Guillory. He’s not good

I gotta be honest. I thought the Times shut down 5 years ago.

I don't know anything about guillory. My statement was based on the similarity of their tweets.

Higgins was just an LSU and SEC sycophant- Now that may have been his marching orders. They have a deep bench in that department though.
Guillory and Holden were very good and will be missed.

For the record, Worsham is leaving Tiger Rag too.

I have a feeling it’s all for The Athletic. Got to start somewhere down here. Wish Kushner or Verrier for Pels but Guillory isn’t bad.

subscription, ad-free sports website/app. They hired a lot of good writers over the past year, put out good content, but it's all behind a paywall. The benefit is that there are no ads jumping all over your screen.

Newspapers are dead.

When Bama beat LSU in New Orleans in Jan 12, I wanted to get a paper the next day and couldn't find one anywhere in the city. Stores barely even carry them anymore. They had a few at the airport I was able to get.

the Athletic is the only hope left for print media in the sports realm. technically not print but the same concept. clean, as free content. not to mention the best collection of writers in the country. and they’re just getting started.

this fall is going to cement then as the go to source for all major media outlets. be prepared for every espn anchor quoting Athletic articles. plus it’s like a 5 bucks a month or something if you don’t find a discount somehow

The Athletic sucks and is going to fail in the next 2-3 years. It's why ESPN Insider is awful.

Their baseball coverage is good. They just got Shams for the NBA, so that’ll improve greatly. If we get Louisiana teams in it then I’m definitely going to subscribe

High school coverage gets left behind in all this, doesn’t it?

If Worsham goes to The Athletic, I'll strongly consider subscribing. It's already tempting enough with the guys they have.

Yeah, I like Eno Sarris as a national guy. From the Cardinals perspective, I like Bernie Miklasz and Joe Schwarz. Not real big on Mark Saxon, he's nowhere near the quality of the Post Dispatch beat writers or Jen Langosch of MLB.com.

I only just subscribed the other day, so I'm still finding new writers I hadn't read before too. Specifically with college football. I really like it though and it's dirt cheap.

Subscription content is probably here to stay, and they're putting together a model that I'm okay with paying for.

It doesn't suck, but I'm not sure it will be successful. The subscription model will be interesting. Most people just aren't interested in long form reporting anymore. People will just follow these guys on Twitter and not pay for the Athletic. Will be interesting to see what happens. This will either be the future of sports media or a bunch of what are considered top writers will be unemployed.
