Ron Higgins- LSU beat writer

quote:

@MrCFB
I don't know who makes the decisions at the New Orleans-Times Picayune. But that person is an idiot. You let Ron Higgins go today. @RonHigg is one of the best SEC writers working today. Dog, you're going to be fine. Can't say as much for the T-P. Crazy.

Larry Holder- Saints beat writer

quote:

@LarryHolder
Today is my last day at (link: LINK ) NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. I honestly can't believe I'm writing this since it's the only place I've ever wanted to work. I’ve cherished my six years working with such dedicated journalists. What’s next for me? Stay tuned .

Will Guillory- Pelicans beat writer

quote:

@WillGuillory
Some sad news: Tomorrow will be my final day at (link: LINK ) NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. I remember writing not too long ago that this was my dream job and it's surreal to think it has come to an end. These past two years have meant everything to me. I'll be back soon...

Holder wasn't let go, the "stay tuned" makes me think he's going to the Athletic. Maybe the same with Guillory.

He needs to take notes from Brett McMurphy on how to operate as an independent.

Nola.com has hired nothing but imbeciles to write over there. This is probably good news for both their careers.

Isn’t the Pels beat writer a Deloitte or PwC consultant during the day

Nvm it’s the Advocate guy LINK

You’re probably thinking of Scott Kushner, the Advocate’s Pels beat writer.

Who cares 90% of sports writers are nerds who didn't even play little league. It amazes me how little someone can know about sports and make that their career.

This isn't even close to true . You don't need to play professional sports to know how to cover it as a journalist.

Yeah sports coverage would be great if we only got the takes provided by all the super intelligent athletes who played the game

That's not what I said. You don't need to be a pro, but at least playing would help. I know two people that are beat writers for MLB teams, one was a jv wrestler throughout high school and the other didn't play any sports in high school. I think both of them are pretty bad and don't know shite about baseball and both work for very large publications. That's how most sports writers are.

Of course there are other guys who are awesome who never played at a high level, but they are the exception not the rule. And for the record, I think most pro athletes are horrible too.
