The NFL is starting to become concerned with the quality of QB coming up from college

NFL-run farm system incoming? I doubt we'll it for a long time (if ever), but it's interesting how so many highly touted QBs coming out of high school have suddenly started to become busts.

It is almost like a revolving door of coaches, turning over 50% of a roster after every season, and changing programs multiple times leads to minimal development of players. It isn't just QBs, they're just the first to get noticed.

Maybe the NFL should fund their own minor league and they can develop QBs the way they want

The transfer portal.
Most QBs are playing at 2-3 schools in 3-4 years.
Absolutely no development

The biggest disappointments have been at their schools for years.

In general, poor QB across the league is the reason for parity. Many of us were spoiled by the class of ‘83 and those after. Once you had QBs jumping from team-to-team with multiple OCs, QB development tanked. And it won’t change anytime soon
I posted this on 10/15 regarding the NFL. College QB development has been poor for years

How many offenses are one read, tuck and run? Why are QBS now judged by "measurables" and not by what's between the ears.

Well, In Arch's case he has sucked for years

The portal is killing development. The first stop can try to smooth out the weaknesses in the QB, but too bad he's in the portal ready for school #2, coach #2, a developmental reset that effectively negates what good could have come from year 1.

Because relatively few colleges have complex offenses and a QB with multiple years of development within that system. College coaches therefore don’t have that much trust in their QBs command of a complex system to let them put that kind of material on film, so NFL teams are left with measurables alone to judge.

College coaches are too quick to move on from QBs

This has been coming since pre-NIL. Super simplified offenses designed for pure athletes in order to ‘win now’. No time or patience for development from the players, the coaches, or the fans. Very hard to build an offensive system that can define a program over years. Easy transfers then topped with NIL has made it way worse. NFL product has suffered. Everybody expects to start now and get paid big right away. You can’t leave all that money on the bench, and they won’t sign unless they’re guaranteed a starting gig. Catch 22.

Well NFL teams run a fundamentally different offense than the majority of high level colleges…. The spread RPO can win national championships but aren’t nearly as affective in the pros during the playoffs especially…

Be a shame if their free farm system started experiencing difficulties.

Colleges are not focused on prepping QBs for the NFL. They are prepping their QBs to win at college, and I cannot blame them.
The absurd thing is the NFL being frustrated w it h college teams focusing on winning and keeping their jobs instead of serving as a free minor league for the NFL.
NFL needs to go screw itself trying to whine about this. Stop expecting rookie QBs to be great and actually develop them yourselves or pay for your own minor league and let college football go back to being about the schools.

I’ve been hearing about bad QB development for years for about 15+ years now ever since RPO offenses took over and colleges moved away from pro style offenses.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but it seems like every generation of QB’s has 7-8 that are elite to good and the rest are revolving doors.

Half the time coaches are sending QBs to the portal if they had a marginal year because they think they got a hotshot coming in

Traditionally college football is my favorite sport but sometimes you’ve got to admit what’s plainly obvious. CFB is trash right now.

Lol they’ve been saying this forever. Would they prefer the 70s and 80s when everyone ran the wishbone and triple option in college?
