And I guess maybe the subjective/arbitrary enforcement is what's affected, probably misleading to say the investigation would be since that is headed up by Uncle Sam.
You're right, Manfred isn't actually doing the investigating. I hate to be the guy that ends up taking the fall for this. What are the potential legal ramifications?

It would tell the Cardinals what the Astros were focusing on in the draft, allowing them to pick players they wanted the round before, for example, while also (potentially) giving them a leg up in trade talks as they would know how Houston truly valued players.
It would tell the Cardinals who the Astros were talking to about potential trades, giving them insight into other teams' private plans and actions as well.
So you might want to quit being a Hack (different use of the term than you Cards people are used to)
What trades have Houston and st louis made by chance? What trades have st. Louis and anyone made for that matter? Sure it gives that insight, but without any resulting actions then it's meaningless. As I mentioned they could draft lunhows guys off of it if they wanted. That completely disregards any development system they have in place though.

prison time for anyone proven to be involved , but they could get lower downs to testify against higher ups and trade testimony for immunity

I wonder if the Cardinals "tools" for identifying draft prospects in lower levels of baseball (D2, NAIA, lower level JC) that they've been talking about for a few years was really just them hacking Lunhow's list and grabbing names?
That is something he does a bit of late in drafts.

The fact that the Cardinals had access to this information is punishable by itself. It might be that this type of access of information allowed for the Cardinals to NOT want to take any actions with the Astros.
All in all, what the Cardinals did was downright wrong; and there should be a justifiable punishment for it.

And what moves weren't made as a result of the hacking? Your defense is "they maybe, probably, or at least I don't think anyone can prove they used any of the information...so no big deal."
It's a federal crime as well as cheating within the game. It's meaningful. It's criminal. No matter how anyone tries to spin it.

Manfred is a puppet. he will hang this on some low level scouting or IT guys and the higher ups will take the "we had no idea this was going on " route…it will be blamed on Tom Brady's ball boys

False, you just can't follow a conversation. My input is this is wrong and I'm ashamed it's hanging over the team. The benefits seem minimal though and that's why I suggested I imagine this to be a lower level incident. I myself without any facts don't see this being an entire organization ordeal.
We will find out though and let me again say it's wrong and shouldn't have happened

doesn't matter if it benefitted the cardinals at all…it clearly harmed the astros and ways that can't ever fully be known. it is a MAJOR Crime. Mizzou is going down in flames. losss of draft picks and international bonus pool money for 5 years, major fines, several execs banned for life and sitting behind bars.
Cardinals will be the tampon of the Major leagues.
