At this point if a 3 loss SEC team were to get in, it would prob be Texas if they were to drop another game.

Teams with 2 losses have made the national championship during the BCS. With a 12 team playoff, it seems obvious a team with 3 losses will get in.

I hate how they keep expanding. Imagine how average some teams will be who get into the 24 team playoff.

I think there is a good chance 2 get in

Good chance the loser of the SEC title game has 3 losses and one other.

Leading contenders to be three loss SEC teams:

Texas
LSU
Bama

Bama vs LSU loser is out as the winner will have head to head metric. LSU and Texas play. Bama does not play Texas. Will be interesting to see what happens. Personally I do not think any 3 loss team should be in a 12 team playoff regardless of conference.

So we should put some shite team in just because they have fewer losses?

You have to beat who is on your schedule. Doesn’t matter if you have a schedule like Indiana or Texas. 9-3 Bama or LSU don’t belong in a 12 team playoff. That’s everybody gets a trophy mentality.

Honestly some of this two loss and who could become three loss teams are more convincing that a few of the one loss teams. Strength of schedule needs to be a factor. Teams who schedule weak like Indiana Notre Dame should not get the free pass. Notre Dame needs a statement came against Miami.

There may not be 12 teams who don’t have 3 losses

Mungo that might eventually be the case but as of right now a 9-3 team doesn’t belong no matter what conference they are in. I could totally see this scenario:
10-2 Notre Dame left out
1 ACC bid
1 Big12 bid
The auto G5 bid

That would leave 5 spots to fill.

In that scenario whoever comes out better in the head to head and other metrics of 9-3 Bama, 9-3 LSU, 9-3 Texas likely will grab that last non Group of 5 spot. Just have to let it play out.

There were 5 SEC playoff teams last year. I suspect there will be 5 this year as well, and I think there will be one, maybe two, 3-loss teams in the top 5 of the SEC.

And that’s not even counting the loser of the conference championship game.

The SECG loser could end up with 3 and many would think they’d need to still be in the CFP, if it’s a good tight game.

It doesn’t even to be a good game. See last year. The CCGs no longer have negative effects on teams. 10-3 equals 10-2.

The real distinction is 9-3. Based on the chaos of this year so far, I think 1 or 2 9-3 SEC teams will make it in.

I don't even think 8 teams will finish with less than 2 losses. I think you could get 4 3 loss teams in the CFP this year.

It is 2007 all over again.
As of now there are:
3 undefeated teams
12 P5 teams with 1 loss

Here are the teams with 1 or 2 losses that these 15 teams have left to play:
Indiana - Minnesota, USC
Miami - ND, Duke, VT
UCLA - Minnesota, USC
Utah - Cincy, BYU, Arizona
Kentucky - UGA, Texas
tOSU - USC, Northwestern, Nebraska
UGA - Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee
BYU - Utah, Houston
Notre Dame - Miami, Navy, USC
TT - Arizona, OkST
WF - SMU, Duke
SMU - VT, WF, ND
Boise - Oregon State
Northwestern - Iowa, OSU, Minnesota
Arizona - TT, Utah

So we will definitely see a lot of cannibalism among these teams

They don’t pick the 12 best teams. The fact that the G5 gets an auto bid tells us that. LSU vs Bama winner is setting themselves up to possibly get a bid at 9-3 if it comes to that but it’s not a lock. 10-2 Bama or 10-2 LSU is a playoff lock.

I just looked at the ESPN percentages for every game. This is obviously not exact, but it gives us an idea of what could happen.

Guess how many SEC teams make it to the end of the regular season with fewer than three losses.

Two.

11-1 UGA and 10-2 LSU

UK, Texas, Bama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are all 9-3.

Unless LSU completely collapses. there will be multiple three loss teams between LSU, Tennessee, Texas, and Bama.

FWIW, if Kentucky defeats Florida at home and Mizzou on the road, they will likely be 10-2.

That sounds good in your head, but it won't (and shouldn't) happen that way.

The bowl system is dead, This is no longer about rewarding a team that had a great season with a great bowl. This is now about picking teams that legitimately have a chance to win out IN THE POSTSEASON, and if that team happened to have a couple bumps in the road along the way, so be it. Oh, and yeah, you will get 1 sacrificial lamb with the G6 team.
