Power can shift, but right now in 2024, these are the 50 most influential figures and forces in sports
Yep, definitely a 2024 ranking.

That list is trash. Like how the hell or half of those people influential.
Michael Jordan wasn’t even on the list. His brand is on everything.

OP is a massive nonce for Caitlin
Its really she's just the catalyst to watch the comical MSM twist themselves into a Pretzel to bootstrap WNBA relevance off of Caitlin Clark while doing everything to ignore, back page or deny her astronomical importance to an ill-run, historically bad, financially destitute sports League.
]
Angel Reese is on the cover....and she owes any fame she has to Clark....and shamelessly attaching herself to Clark like she's Magic....and then complaining about Clark's fans and Clark. It's truly a social media phenomenon.... Wanting to celebrate and promote the WNBA's overnight increase in popularity...but highlight everyone BUT the reason. You HAVE to go really out of your way. Hell, CC was a slam dunk for SportsPerson of the Year but SI tipped they ain't playing that hand.
Its been interesting to see behind the curtain why the WNBA was such a failure all these years....run by morons who marketed the League based on agenda and it thought mimicking men would draw eyeballs.

People are downvoting because the didn't read the article. LSU Tigers talent is a top 20 most influential figure in sports.

COLLEGE ATHLETES TURNED STARS
Few colleges have produced as many elite athletes in the last few years as LSU. In the NFL, there are stars like the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson (above), Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase and his quarterback, Joe Burrow. Heisman Trophy-winning QB Jayden Daniels is now leading the Commanders, while rookie receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. are looking to make their names with the Giants and Jaguars, respectively. Outside of football, there’s Paul Skenes in Pittsburgh; junior Flau’jae Johnson is one college basketball’s biggest stars. At the Paris Games, Sha’Carri Richardson won silver in the 100 meters and anchored the U.S. team that won gold in the women’s 4x100 relay. Her former LSU classmate and pole vaulter Armand Duplantis won gold for Sweden, proving that the LSU effect extends well beyond the U.S. —M.V.

Just more racial pandering.. nothing new from SI or sports media.
No Caitlan this year, no WNBA in any headlines or relevant news stories. Just ESON trying to prop up the WNBA by leading with layup league stories as they had been doing for the previous 4-5 years.

Clark is a better basketball player but not as influencial off the court because she doesnt engage social media like Angel does..
If anyone is twisting themself into a pretzel it is you.
Angel has more instagram followers than Clark. She has done rap videos and fashion magazines.
The article is about influencers, not who is the best sportsball player. Livvy Dunne made it and she doesn't even really compete for LSU, yet you don't mention that and melt over Angel being included, who actually does start in a professional league.

What an awful list
Wow. Lists like this are hard to get right and never please everyone, but wow, that was bad.
The LSU Tigers being the only team included was kind of cool though.

Nothing against Ilona Maher but if there only gonna have one Rugby player on the list it should be Antoine Dupont.

9 out of 50 are womens basketball related. Seems a bit excessive.

how is angel reese influential?
I mean she’s pretty good, if Clark wasn’t in the league right now she’d probably be running away with the rookie of the year award. Problem is for her, Clark is just on another level right now. It’s essentially like have a great player stacked up against a generational player.

Eh I think that’s fair, but the tv ratings are what really matter at least for growing the WNBA. And while I have zero problem with Reese, she can’t pull the eyeballs that Clark can. If there’s any one woman that will help the league out the most it’s Caitlin.

Someone like livvy dunne for instance, I undestand her "influence" is primarily as a social media personality and brand sponsor for various companies. I don't know anything about what angel reese is known for
What's kind of wild, is Livvy Duane has 5.3 million followers, while Angel Reese has 4.2 million. I did not expect it to be nearly that close.

ask...how is angel reese influential? Like who or what is she influencing?
There's something like 9 people on this list out of 50 from/connected to the WNBA. In what Universe would such a list exist last year?
There wouldn't be 1 figure on this list, WNBA related, if it wasn't for Caitlin Clark....Nobody cared, nor cares about who played before and X,Y,Z built this League.... Yada, yada, yada....Shitty builders, lying Contractors because NOBODY watched the product you built.
No one has ever, in any sport, male or female, and changed its fortunes overnight, transformed its travel, player salaries, attendance, viewership, message boards,
