re: Should Duke have been shooting technical free throws after Mullins’ shot?

The kids running on the court absolutely should have been ignored, glad it was. But had they T'd up Hurley I don't think I'd have had an issue with it. He's legit a fricking psycho.

It seemed less like a playful gesture and more like him taunting the ref in a “we won in spite of your bad officiating” kind of way, and he initiated contact.
It would have been terrible for this call to be made and I'm glad they didn't make it.
But, Hurley 100% deserved it. That dude is an embarrassment.

Ref made the right choice I think in that situation. Would’ve been really tough for the players to have a game decided that way.
But at the same time, I can think of no current college coach (in either football or basketball) where it’d be more funny if he was forever remembered for costing his team a Final Four berth by being a complete prick - for, quite literally, absolutely no reason, completely unnecessarily - than the douchebag that is Danny Hurley.
Maybe that would’ve finally been the straw that broke the camel’s back to humble him and get him to reflect a little bit on his inferiority complex and realize that he’s a complete a-hole. Probably not because he’s a douchebag and would just blame the ref for getting in the way of his head’s natural positioning, but maybe.

Maybe I missed it, but did the headbutt happen before the game officially ended?
Has there ever been a situation where a coach made physical contact with an official in-game and not get penalized?

Can they not suspend him for the next game or something? Keep the win for UCONN as it had no bearing on the play but punish his actions in an appropriate way for legit acting like a psycho? Pretty fricking egregious honestly.

The smart thing to have done for Duke would have been to inbound the ball immediately and have it hit one of UConn’s players or coaches that came onto the floor. Force the refs to call a tech.
Unfortunately for Duke they called timeout which nullified the guys coming onto the floor to impede play.
No coach has probably ever told his team in a huddle “if they hit a last second shot to beat us and rush the floor with time still left, I want you to inbound the ball and try to hit one of them that would force a T”
Coaches really should consider this tactic.

I would have T'd that douchebag up in a heartbeat.

Maybe so but he’d have no one to blame but himself. Dude belongs in a mental hospital when he does crap like that. Heck of a coach but major nut case.

- I'm amused by the balls and unhinged nature of the guy, and I respect his ability and boldness
- 100% tech and I can't believe we were spared that absolute internet-breaking outcome
If he gets a soft t on Saturday it'll be hard to morally object to it

I think the answer has to be yes. I know heat of the game etc. but his first reaction is basically to get nose to nose with an official

Embarrassing behavior for a head coach. Would have been hilarious if he accidentally bumped heads and got teed up. But they’re play gay arse Duke, so I’ll allow it.

There’s no wiggle room in these situations, or sports rules in general. If the NFL and MLB can implement robo umps and electronic measurements, we need this in baseball. A neutral robot can measure the force of the hit from Hurley’s forehead, instantly compare to any legal amount of force dictated within the rules, and properly assess the foul.

The players on the court, not a live ball, clock stops on made basket at that point in the game till inbounded. It wasn’t inbouunded and Duke called time out. No way that’s a T. And even if duke tried to inbound refs called stoppage to check the clock. And added one tenth back.
Hurley was an idiot and could have been called. But the view I see doesn’t show for sure he was touching ref. If he was touching, hard to believe no T.

Seth Greenberg of ESPN said he personally talked to the referee about this and the referee didn’t know what the @#&& he was talking about. Seriously.

I don’t think it would be crazy for the ref to give him a tech there. He intentionally made contact with the ref. What an absolute douche

Hats off to the ref for being the bigger man and doing the right thing by letting it go.
Some of the best calls are the ones never made

No doubt he needs to show some more maturity/restraint there, come on man..
