The Los Angeles Dodgers fire Ippei Mizuhara, Shohei Ohtani's long-time interpreter.
Mizuhara was accused by Ohtani's attorneys of engaging in a “massive theft” of Ohtani's funds to place bets with an illegal bookmaker, according to the LA Times.

Yuge story on the horizon

I understand Ohtani’s first language isn’t English, and he had to learn a lot of things being a professional athlete here

But how does one not notice millions are being stolen from them?

Surely this isn’t a joint effort and a guy taking the fall. That’d be quire the story

Now the question becomes if he was the fall guy and this is covering up Shohei betting.

Not necessarily likely, but not out the realm of possibility.

I’m sure he’s got guys handling the financials and doesn’t check his checking account on every morning like us poors

But not noticing millions being taken from you sure is something

Why does the interpreter even have access to the money?

Which is why I can see a scenario where MLB/feds started sniffing around and Shohei was just like "LOL it was Ippei"

He probably used the millions on a lock. Can’t blame him, hardly even gambling

If true hes the biggest idiot in the world. Had a cushy job where you got to travel and hang out with the best player in baseball history while getting paid to do it.

Or get a large sum of money to go away and take the fall for your friend.

Like another poster said, this seems very fishy to me.

Mizuhara had a contract with the Los Angeles Angels when Ohtani played there and signed with the Dodgers this off-season. Mizuhara confirmed to ESPN he has been paid between $300,000 and $500,000 annually.

I’m not sold this guy was stealing Ohtani’s money and using it to gamble for his own pleasure.

So basically they are saying the interpreter lied about how big of a gambling debt he had and just pocketed the extra money?

Isn't this the same guy that's getting paid like 5 pennies for 10 years then 250 gazillion after?

Maybe he has a gambling problem
