You guys can't catch a break with big FA signings.

Bauer, now Ohtani... only a matter of time before Freddie gets caught up in some fricked up shite.

Wasn’t the story basically that Freddy wanted to resign with the Braves and his agent basically lied to him to get him to agree to the deal with LA?

Ohtani's deal, announced Monday, provides that 97% of the money be deferred without interest and not fully paid until 2043. The Athletic first reported Wednesday that Ohtani's deal contained a provision allowing him to opt out at the end of a season if the Dodgers made specific personnel changes.

Lets say Shohei was the one gambling...why would he do it on an illegal bookmaker? Its actually ok for mlb players to bet on other sports like the nfl or nba as long as its a legit sportsbook according to their rulebook.

Hasn't the person pushing that already recanted?

Sounds like a gambler’s version of seppuku.

Japanese bookie?

Idk.

Why would would Ippei risk the cushiest of cush jobs?

Whatever actually happened, someone risked everything for nothing other than the thrill of gambling.

It’s always the quiet ones. Ohtani is allegedly a degenerate gambler, Marvin Harrison allegedly killed a guy, Craig James allegedly killed five hookers…

ALLEGEDLY

If that story is true, how dumb must Ippei feel. He just burned a bridge to a dude who was apparently going to erase a $4.5m gambling debt for his friend.

Yea feel like this just makes it that much more odd

Like Ohtani has a history of helping dudes in gambling debt out, you are one of his closest friends, you are in gambling debt, you......steal from him instead of asking for help? Something is fricky

I understand Ohtani’s first language isn’t English, and he had to learn a lot of things being a professional athlete here But how does one not notice millions are being stolen from them? Surely this isn’t a joint effort and a guy taking the fall. That’d be quire the story

I’m sure it wasn’t like him having 10 mil and it going to 5 mil overnight. I’m sure it was over a period of time and when you have that kind of money it’s easy to get away with it for a while.

Ohtani might have to mysteriously go play in the nba for awhile and then come back to mlb

He can join Lebron and bronny with lakers

What's so weird is that Ippei sat down for a 90-minute interview with Jeff Passan explaining "everything", Ohtani's spokesman ok'd the interview, only for the spokesman later that day to be like "wait, no, you can't use that interview, Ippei actually stole from us and we're turning things over to the authorities."

what?

Very interested how this all plays out.

But it's reported that Ohtani was ready to wire him $4.5m

His lawyers got involved at the last second

Wonder if he was helping these dudes out and his lawyers just found out and are driving all of this

Yeah I didn’t read that part. I was just commenting on how money can go missing when you have millions spread out. Be like us missing a few thousand here and there.
