That group they had in 82-84 was talented, but it had kind of a short shelf life due to it being veteran guys who later struggled with injuries or declining play or they retired (Niekro, Horner, Chambliss).

Remember being a fan pf him and Dale Murphy back in the day watching games on TBS.

Dale Murphy was my grandfather's favorite but I watched many a Braves game with him because they were his favorite team because he could watch them for free on TBS so I got lots of Murphy & Horner summers up at Canyon Lake.

I know a lot of people have said they were watching his 4 homer game live, I’m pretty sure it aired tape delayed due to the Goodwill Games, another Turner idea.

I am not saying this is what he died from by ANY means, but as a 61 year old that was a ball boy for a hs football team for 4 years as a kid in the early 72-75 I got to be friends with a lot of folks(including cheer leaders from that era that that are now 66-72 years old. A large number of them were big time coke heads(well into their 40s) and MANY of those have suffered debilitating health related issues once they hit late 50s - despite most living fairly healthy lives: non smokers, light drinkers and most exercising.

Komminsk tore up the minors. Are you aware that the Red Sox offered the Braves Jim freaking Rice and the Braves turned them down because the Red Sox wanted Komminsk in the deal?
Tom Glavine was Komminsk’s roommate and said years later that he thought Komminsk just couldn’t handle the pressure of the majors. Wouldn’t be the first or last example of that, you got to have a special “It” to make it in The Show.
Plus I saw in one reference that half the Braves’ organization at the time including Henry Aaron were on him constantly coaching him and trying to get him sorted out but telling him 100 different things and pulling and turning him 100 different ways until his head was probably spinning like Reagan in The Exorcist.
