The idea of Spring football used to be really cool. Before you could stream anything, the 80’s USFL worked. Arena football had its day in the sun, and I think can still work on a bigger scale instead of the XFL, USFL 2, AAF, etc.
The original XFL had some novelty that faded fast, and AAF had fans excited. Time and time again, we see that interest fades fast with the exception of a couple of markets. The constant rebranding doesn’t work, and moving cities every other year won’t generate fans. It’s time to put the idea of Spring football to bed unless the game is fundamentally different, like the arena leagues.
Hell, even the CFL is having some serious attendance issues.

The idea is you’re not really supposed to “support” the teams, you’re just supposed to gamble on them and viewership comes from that

Confirmed. Calgary Stampeders home opener, June 5th this year.
17,743 announced attendance in a 35,400 capacity stadium. Half empty.

Super Motocross sells out every March. Monster Jam follows the next weekend with a sellout. Those may be the only sellouts each year.

Chris and Usher just did back to back nights in Bham .
Chris Brown just had one of the highest grossing tours of 2025. He just did 250 million last year.
The only people who did more were Cold Play, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar & Sza, the Weekend, and Shakira.

He’s right in that 10,000 in a small stadium is greater than 20,000 in a large stadium. Empty seats make the event seem sad.

LOL I was in Birmingham back in May and they had a big group of fans show up to watch the game in Columbus vs the Aviators. I was actually shocked at how into the game they were. When they were initially setting up hanging up flags and shite I had no clue WTF was going on.
I would have expected just based on those ~25 ish dudes wildin out they would have had better than expected fan support but I guess not.

The stadium is five years old. It’s hosted Garth Brooks and Chris Brown twice. As evident in this thread - Monster Jam and motor cross. It just seems some in this thread are exaggerating just how many big acts the stadium has brought in for the sake of defending the need for a 50k seat stadium in Birmingham.
It looks cool when you go through Birmingham but as far as 50k seats being necessary? Highly debatable.

OKC is building a new 10,000 seat soccer stadium, expandable to 25,000 in future. Opens Jan 2028 and is where the new football team will play.
OKC for Soccer said NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, NBA champion and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams and Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are investing in the club and downtown stadium district being developed by Echo Investment Capital.
Echo’s Connective Capital model, developed by founding partner and CEO Christian Kanady, is assembling a coalition of athletes, operators, and community leaders to build a sustainable, world-class soccer club in Oklahoma City.
Mayfield, Williams, and McLaughlin-Levrone join fellow athlete investors Russell Westbrook, Jozy Altidore, and Nik Bonitto along with strategic investments by cultural entrepreneur Nick Gross and the Chickasaw Nation.

I’m probably done with the UFL now. They are putting a team in OKC, but I had watched the Stallions games mainly because I watched the original USLF Stallions way back when.
The league complains about empty stadiums, but they charge way too much for tickets. They’d be better off reducing prices to get people in the stadium and making money off of merch and concessions.

Nobody is doing this. Pointing out that this has happened and that there are events that have shown the ability to accomodate the size of the stadium, when you were solely focused on football does not equate exaggerating. Their aim is to get a large scale concert or two there a year. Sucks Post Malone cancelled his show in May last minute, that would have been a very fun one. UAB needs to do better, plain and simple. Bowl game needs to bring in better draws, plain and simple. That isn't the stadium's fault though. None of that is to say that the stadium has been a resounding success. UAB being the most curious one. The city and events board needs to do better to attract the acts for it.
The city somewhat being forced to keep Legion on its life support wasn't originally part of the plan either. It was originally supposed to be phased out, but some people threw a hissy fit.
