They got tired of Louisiana teams being financial drains and had bigger dreams

Louisiana should have a better chance this year at March Madness with all of the good basketball schools bolting Southland.

The SWAC would be the best place for them competitively, but that’s not an option Why would that not be a option?

The SWAC has come out and said they will not accept anyone accept HBCU schools.

W/ the ASUN having 5 teams ready to go for 2022 (assuming Jax St is out ?), they already have 12 teams in total, so I can’t see them growing the total conference numbers above 16 (3 new football + 1 non football or 4 new football programs) ….

Southeastern, Nicholls, and HBU seem to be in the best shape to join the ASUN with their proximity to major cities & airports.+ poaching another strategic market School in their footprint. — NSU seems SOL.

McNeese is no longer going to the WAC and remaining in the Southland. Wonder if politics came into play here

Probably looking at the reality of road trips past Louisiana and Texas… let’s just admit it, the Texas teams left the Southland because the Louisiana teams are poor

Where did you see this? Maybe they got a better offer.

The loss to Nicholls this past weekend made the WAC rescind the offer

Oh, you mean to the one school outside of Texas or Louisiana?

Unless there were other teams coming in, Dixie State was the only school outside of the LA-TX area.

ETA: just saw that New Mexico State was apparently going to be part of the WAC as well. Some speculation that Sam and NMSU leaving the WAC led to McNeese declining the offer.

And further, it appears the Southland may have offered McNeese the basketball, baseball, and softball conference tournaments starting in 2023 for four years. Then they have first right of refusal after that.

Also no exit fee if McNeese ever leaves the conference for the FBS.

Sounds like the Southland bent over backwards to keep McNeese.

Did Texas and Oklahoma leaving the big 12 trigger all of this madness?

I didn't realize that the WAC had dropped down to a FCS.

This is the first year they've sponsored football since 2012.

Maybe Northwestern State can start winning some games with McNeese out of the picture.

Actually glad we’re staying, but McNeese needs to be competitive and the conference needs to be competitive. Doubt we get what we really want out of any FCS conference in our proximity.

Southland just gave the keys to the kingdom to McNeese

You know how everyone says Alabama runs the SEC? Well McNeese runs the Southland now...lol!

-Football Media Day back to Lake Charles
-Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball tournaments all in Lake Charles starting in 2023 for 4 years
-First Right of Refusal goes to McNeese for all 4 tournaments after the 4 year period
-Zero buyout if McNeese leaves for the FBS
-McNeese AD Heath Schroyer will serve as an Advisor to the SLC Commissioner

Big win for McNeese and Lake Charles. No other conference was giving them this.

McNeese will also host both the men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments, as well as those for baseball and softball, for the next four years starting in 2023. The school will also have the right of first refusal to continue hosting those events when that time expires.

Goodness gracious

That's insane. But good for McNeese and Lake Charles. It's better for them and the Southland that they stay together, IMO. And they were able to leverage it for the benefit of the city.
