So what's the reasoning here?

I honestly believe it was due to Trump. Manfred met with him last month where the topic of Rose came up and then the ban gets overturned within 30 days of that meeting. I don't think that's a coincidence.

That's awesome.

There's not a chance in hell any of the self righteous nerds on the HOF committee vote for them.

The problem is people look at this through a modern prism and get their backs up when they think "someone who didn't know any better" was "taken advantage of by sharpies."

That wasn't the case here.

But it's over with. Maybe after 100 years it's time.

This is why I think Trump got involved. A very good, very balanced, very fair biography of Pete came out last year. Pete cooperated with it, gave his blessings to it, sat down for interviews with the author, and again the results are probably the definitive Pete Rose biography. If you are a Rose fan and haven't read it, you should.

In this book, the author presented the results of a survey of how Americans view Pete. Those results show that only one demographic in this country ... one ... has a positive view of Pete. That demographic is conservative white men.

So it should not be surprising that Trump got involved given the fact that his base seems to love Pete.

Downvote away, I'm just reporting what the numbers in that survey said.

the Baseball Writers

These are the people who bring you the concept of the “first ballot hall of famer”, which is the dumbest concept in sports.

Should have just left it alone.

Pointless now, and comes off as a weak attempt to gain some cheap goodwill.

Again, the writers will not be voting on these selections for the Hall of Fame. They will be voted on by one of the Veterans Committees which include former players, managers, team executives and I think some media people are involved.

Ok.

The concept of “first ballot HOFer” is still retarded as hell. You either had a HOF career, or you didn’t. The baseball writers are terrible, both at their actual jobs and in HOF voting

The whole thing is designed to where the Mount Rushmore faces get in first ballot and others get in along the way, which is what the people who own/run the Hall of Fame want. Unlike fans who argue the thing is getting watered down, the HoF people want a steady stream of new members in there. Back in the 1960s they were pissed off at the writers for not putting enough people in.

There was only one person who kept Pete out of the Hall and he saw him in the mirror every day.

This should have happened a long time ago while Pete was still here to enjoy it.

They are only doing this so Othani doesnt catch shite when his career finishes and people bring up his little gambling addition from a few months back.

I bet shite is about to hit the fan for Ohtani, the bookie, and Ippei Mizuhara

frick MLB for waiting until Pete Rose died

Oh boo hoo for Pete Rose. Plenty of other deserving players weren't invited into the Hall until after death, and they didn't stained the game like he did.

At least it'll be a little less absurd when I turn on FanDuel sports network to watch the Reds.

There are four faces on MT Rushmore. What is possibly the purpose of that? It’s totally arbitrary

Then maybe the writers should vote hall of famer’s into the hall instead of the absurdly nonsensical explanation that someone isn’t a “first ballot” hall of famer.

The writers and the hall will continue to have no credibility until Clemens, Bonds, etc are in anyway. That era of athletes is the only reason the MLB didn’t die altogether after the strike.

one of my prized possessions was my late grandfathers history of baseball book from the 30s....there was a great chapter on the player that Shoeless Joe Jackson was from his breakout in Cleveland (hits leader) to the play in th field to the scandal. Always had a soft spot for him.

It will be interesting to see what happens
