How did we go from we're just talking to it's happening right now?
I've seen the conversations, but I've mostly thought it's offseason type fillers

Will be interesting to see if two G5 conference champs are ranked higher than say the PAC12 conference champ.
SEC
ACC
BIG 10
BIG 12
AAC
CUSA
then the 6 at large bids don’t include the PAC 12 champion

For teams like ND, OU, and clemson, you just have to be somewhat decent and you are in
For teams like LSU, UGA, and UF, you should make it 50-75% of the time
Bama was always in either way currently

Why does Pat Forde care. Didn’t he want college football canceled because too many coaches weren’t wearing masks?

It's "six highest-ranked conference champions,"

That, and we've seen over and over that it's typically the two or three teams that have a shot and the sacrificial lamb. There will be the occasional upset which is the excitement the NCAA would want, but the best teams will still be there at the end. They will basically be creating more participation trophy opportunities.
Hopefully this kills the bowl system off entirely. We have been living in the biggest trophy generation era EVER in college football the last 30 years with 30+ bowl games and over 60 teams making a bowl game...including 5-7 teams. I dont want to hear anything about the "regular season" or "trophies", when the reality is that it has been going on forever.

Yeah Bama under Saban is guaranteed every year in this format, which is going to really suck for the non Bama teams that wins the SEC

Think about what it take for a team like OU or Clemson to not make a 12 team field?
Both are favored in every game, usually by double digits.
They could go 10-2 every year and they are in
I for one look forward to a final four consisting of Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, and Oklahoma/Alternative candidate every year.
Oh wait

Quick look, LSU would have made it 11/20 previous seasons
Posted on 6/10/21 at 1:21 pm to dallastiger55
The Big12 should do away with their conference championship game.

Why? The hate for the bowl game system is dumb. I remember how big of a deal it was that Dinardo got LSU to the Independence Bowl. It's more exposure for players and a blast for the fans. I will never complain about extra football. We all know it doesn't mean anything, so just enjoy it.

While it looks like the expanded playoff is coming to College Football, we still have hope for a new variance of Covid to cancel the season

So quick look back to 2000 with this format
UGA 11/20 seasons
LSU 11/20 seasons
UF 11/20 seasons
Bama 15/20 seasons
Ohio state 17/ 20 seasons
Do i need to go on?
UGA 11/20 seasons
LSU 11/20 seasons
UF 11/20 seasons
Bama 15/20 seasons
Ohio state 17/ 20 seasons

Because the bowl system is meaningless. I cant wrap my head around the people who literally complain about more playoff games that actually mean something, then saying they want to keep the bowl system that meams absolutely nothing...all while complaining about how this will make the regular season meaningless....somebody make that make sense for me!!
Lastly, players are opting out of these meaningless game at an alarming rate...and in case you havent noticed, attendance at these games is pathetic anymore. These are not valid takes.

I like the fact that a team like Liberty or UCF could have a chance to make some noise.
The one thing I've hated about the debate over the playoffs is the talk that these teams have to prove themselves for years before they can be taken seriously and you know that's in the mind of the committee. Especially with the coaching carousel these teams may just get 1 or 2 really good years so why not give them the same chance as an only pretty good ND or Mich St team.

Taking basically all of those away with the corporate environment, skyrocketing prices, transfer portal, and now this, seems iffy to me
I mean we are moving so close to it simply being minor leagues

Note: It's "six highest-ranked conference champions," not "Power 5 + 1 G5."
This is just a recommendation, but if it comes to pass that'd be a hell of a coup for the G5.
I mean... they'll get at least one in for sure with this so it is a better system BUT who determines the rankings? The same committee? What does this do with independents like BYU and Notre Dame? Do they have to qualify as at large teams now? Does it actually in some ways make it advantageous to be an independent?
