Ate some crow on that one. I thought he’d be at least a top flight #2 WR.

As I Bama fan I say Richardson. I’m pretty sure everyone expected him to be pretty damn good

I always thought he was a reach for the Bears at #7 anyway, but he was another injury victim. I think he had two microfracture surgeries on the same leg, and played 4 games his first 2 years.

Kevin white was a stud at West Virginia. Thought he was gonna be a beast.

Everyone except for Jim Brown, who called Richardson "ordinary".

Of course the media considered Brown a clueless old man for that opinion. Oops.

He just never could stay healthy. I liked him a lot coming from WV.

Played hs ball with him & threw for track together.

Don't know how he made it that far, honestly. Guess being 6'-5" 330 lbs helps. He exploded in size those last couple years of HS.

knowing the circles he ran in back then, none of how his career ended up is surprising

Saints had two 1st round picks that year. Traded both to move up for this guy. Oh well, I didn’t want to see Troy Polamalu or Dallas Clark play in New Orleans anyway.

Mandarich played seven seasons in the league and started 63 games. He's far from a bust.

Part of it is context.

The guys drafted before and after him? Troy Aikman before, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders after.

That’s four hall of famers with Mandarich pumped up as the best line prospect in history only to end up out of the league after four seasons before returning to play a few years with the Colts.

Mandarich is the football version of Darko Milicic, who was the bust picked at #2 behind LeBron but ahead of guys like Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade.

You have some low standards. Having just 4 seasons worth of starts, and none of them pretty good years, is huge letdown for a no.2 overall pick hyped up as a generational talent. He isn’t a mega bust like JaMarcus or Richardson but he’s still a bust. Top 5 picks are expected to be great players for several years, and he was FAR from that.
