At a bare minimum he needs to be banned for life from hockey at any level. He should probably do felony time IRL. Damn

You guys will love this...

quote:

"I took a pretty good hit down in the corner and had some pretty good pain in my shoulder and neck," Wideman said. "I was just trying to get off the ice and kind of keeled over. At the last second, I looked up and saw [Henderson] and couldn't avoid it. I went up to Donnie and apologized to him on the ice.

"I didn't see him, I didn't know where to go and how to get out of the way. I've been around for a few years, and I think I've treated every official with the utmost respect and I would never intentionally try to hit a linesman or a ref. It was completely unintentional, and I already apologized to him."

1. Wasn't looking down, was looking directly at the linesman.

2. Extended his arm to hit him, not brace himself.

Linesman hits his head on the edge and snaps his head back, it could have been ugly and life threatening.

There was nothing unintentional about that. Not only is Wideman lying about looking down, it's obvious he thrust his body forward into him and extended his arms. That's like Ndamakung Suh level thuggery/bullshite excuse making

Should be suspended the rest of the season

Yeah, I watched that postgame interview and was baffled at how he tried to sell that terrible excuse.

Actually not as bad in the entire context of the play as what I thought.

Wideman got clocked hard. Skating towards his own bench, going against the grain. Has no way to avoid oncoming play. He's a bit pissed and trying to avoid the oncoming flow. Puts his arms up and leans in a bit on a ref who can't see him.

Probably worth the 20 but nothing more.

Wideman honestly looks like he got cracked hard and is woozy, too, right before that. His eyes were rolling in the back of his head. I'd bet the NHLPA would step in if he gets slapped with much more than league minimum.

I think criminal charges for battery should be instituted against the player. It's easily arguable that he's got the appropriate actus rea and mens rea

Cant remember names. But it was probably 15-20 years now that a guy high sticked/slashed a guys head from behind. It was totally uncalled for. From behind and the other guy was unaware. I believe he was knocked unconscious. The offender was charged.

That offense wsa not within the context of the game. Neither is cleaning a refs clock. Should be between 40 games and lifetime ban, along with a criminal charge.

frick that guy.
