Stars are getting by in PP goals off of questionable penalty calls and Benn thugging it up. Scored two tonight on one weak call and one high sticking call that was a sell job that didn't happen.
Wild have been the better team.

Series going about as good so far as could be if you’re an Avs fan.

The Stars need to get rid of him. He’s not a good player anymore.

I'm not advocating for relocation for CBJ. I think they've done a good job settling into the fabric of the community.
But of the US franchises, who is even moderately unstable? That's not rhetorical. I'm genuinely curious.
The Islanders, Pens, Devils, and Sabres are all in good/ great shape. All were relocation threats for years. Who's "the next closest?"

Anaheim, though Anaheim's season/seemingly bright outlook likely will take them off this list starting next year. The Ducks remind me a lot of the 2017-2018 Colorado Avalanche.
San Jose would've been on that list, but there is a reinvestment incoming for renovations (desperately needed) agreed upon last summer with the city. They're going nowhere for a hot minute.

It's not Columbus. Our owners are financially stable, they are renovating the 25 year old building, etc.
Arizona was a shite show, not paying the bills, etc. They got sold, wanted out.
It would very much surprise me if they relocated any team in the US or Canada. There's been recent expansion so I think they give that a few years at least to settle.

But Atlanta also lost the Flames. And if Atlanta gets a 3rd chance, then Phoenix definitely deserves a 2nd. Phoenix can succeed just like any of the other southern markets with the right owner in place. And build a rink in the East Valley where most of the fans will be. The few times they were good, the arena was full.
I doubt any of those teams move. Jets co owner is one of the wealthiest in the league. Owns the arena, and a bunch of property right next do it. And is in the process of developing more of it.
Andlauer is buying land near Parliament Hill for the Senators new arena. They aren't going anywhere.
Blue Jackets have a rent free lease through 2039. So cross them out too. The league makes far more through expansion fees than moving teams.

Seeing a little smoke out there that McDavid's ankle is banged up.
He's a great player and I'd like to see him 100% on the ice.
I wonder if he's not long for Edmonton at this point.

Out of any of the franchises, you would think Winnipeg is the most at risk. They have the smallest area, lowest attendance, and have a hard time attracting free agents. That would be a bad look for the NHL taking the Jets away twice though.
Didn't know that stuff about their owner, so hopefully they are safe. Personally I think 34-36 teams is too many, but whatever it is what it is. Phoenix will happen again, as likely will Houston and Atlanta. Personally don't think Atlanta deserves a third chance.
Good slate of games today

Deserve has nothing to do with it. Winnipeg doesn't deserve a franchise. Neither does Raleigh. Or Nashville. Or Pittsburgh. Or Vegas. Or Minnesota.
What the NHL is looking for is solid financial backing, an arena deal, and a corporate market. If Atlanta, Houston, Omaha or QC can supply that, with a heavy expansion fee, the NHL will listen. The league's expansion process is entirely different than it was during the rapid expansion of the 90s. Then, it was "we're open for business, who wants one?'" Now, learning some harsh lessons, it's, "this is what's required. Call us when you've got your ducks in a row.' That's how Vegas came to be. That's how Utah got the Coyotes. It's also how Winnipeg got the Thrashers.
Rumor is that the current expansion fee is close to $3B. If that's true, the NHL isn't expanding. It's simply too high. Instead, they'll look at one of those interested markets as their on- deck circle for the next franchise that needs to relocate.
If I'm a betting man, the economic reality that is Ottawa or Winnipeg will have either of those teams mobile in a few years. Canada is an economic basket case, and it's going to get worse.
Back to the playoffs at hand, I wish Utah/Vegas was on today. That's been my favorite series. I'm also thinking Anaheim puts the screws to Edmonton.

Houston needs a team. Feel like hockey would actually do well there.

Sabres on fire in the first!

Someone earlier in this thread said that the Sabres would play much better once they got out of Buffalo for a few days, away from the crushing expectations and excitement of their fans, and hoo boy were they right

Poor Boston. I used to hate them until we stole their souls in 2023. Now I just kinda feel sorry for the Bruins.

Nope, screw the Bruins and all Boston sports.
