Notre Dame hasn’t won anything since 1988 and people still think they are relevant. The very fact this clause is in place shows how far ND has fallen

There is a reason there are so few Independents these days it’s an outdated business model. Notre Dame is stuck in the 60’s and 70’s.

This is worse. That means 7-5 Duke gets in next time.

If the committee thinks ND is unworthy they can just rank them 13th.

The playoffs are about to be expanded to 16, maybe 24 teams. Who cares? This is a useless topic

why bitch about them, Big and SEC allowed this

they did the same with BCS bowls, allowing notre dame special privilege to get bowls over their own teams

so call up big and sec offices and complain

You mean the ACC that just made it to the national championship game? That same ACC?

Use BCS formula and quit letting corrupt individuals select the teams.

FWIW, ND would’ve been in the playoff this season under the BCS formula. The individuals with conflict of interest manipulated it to get 5 SEC teams in and make sure an ACC team got in.

Not an argument about who did or didn’t deserve to be in (been debated plenty and over-and-done with), but Hunter Yurachek / his employer benefits from 5 SEC teams getting in. He doesn’t benefit from ND getting in. That’s why all this talk about the committee being biased towards ND makes no rational sense.

Because other schools are unable to pull it off. It’s that simple.

If Alabama was truly a national brand (it isn’t) and was able to pull of independence (it couldn’t), it would.

You’re not sharing revenue with anyone. It’s a tremendous model if you can do it.

Fact is, Notre Dame was forced into being an independent (Big Ten/Michigan/Yost blocked them because they were anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant). They made their identity by going coast to coast and playing anyone. That stuck and here we are.

Because of the massive amount of national success they’ve had over the last 4 decades including multiple national titles across several different sports… oh wait

They used to play a great schedule. But now they have no incentive. They’ll cut the tough teams they have already. They used to play USC, Michigan every year. Who am I missing. But those games were usually good.

It’s ok they have won how many Natl Championship games the last 20 years?

We all know schedules aren’t made 180 days in advance — these things are penciled in many years in advance.

USC was the cowards that weaseled out of the rivalry, not Notre Dame.

Looking at their schedule next year, they’ve got Wisconsin (probably when scheduled, the were decent), Michigan State (same), BYU (top 15), Miami (runner up), SMU (decent), Navy (top 25). Not a gauntlet, but also not as bad as it seems.

In the next few years, however:

2027: Michigan State, Auburn, GT, VT, Clemson, Navy, BYU

2028: Texas, Arkansas, Auburn, Navy, Clemson, VT, Clemson, Miami, Pitt

2029: Alabama, Texas, NC State, GT, FSU, Clemson, Navy

It gets a lot more challenging (especially with Franklin to VT). Stop making me defend Notre Dame.

Yeh, people are acting like it’s a blind ranking. The committee members all know exactly what number each team is assigned This is a rule change that doesn’t change anything . Committee would simply have moved ND from 11 to 13 this year

I wouldn’t count on those SEC teams playing them with the new 9 game schedule

Until you take the top 12 teams in the country, regardless of conference associations, the playoff system will always be skewed.

I thought this rule applied only if they expanded to 16

BYU will likely be ranked ahead of USC when the first polls come out

The Catholics are awesome at PR and lobbying....

History somehow have not treated them as the Mongols or Al Qaeda despite their history of slavery, persecution, intolerance and enabling of pedorasts/
