I think htran made a great point. You're offering up Ingram for long-term Kawhi vs. the Celts or Sixers giving up those guys for 1 year of Kawhi.
That's why it's not worth it, especially considering Golden State is as good as they are so getting Kawhi for one year doesn't put those teams over the top.

If the Lakers get Lebron, Kawhi would put them at that GS level potentially.

and we may get lebron right now regardless. The spurs dont have nearly as much leverage over the Lakers as people are acting like. If getting Kawhi meant lebron, the Lakers would have made a deal happen. But it's been said by multiple people that lebron is more than willing to come alone. They have lost their leverage imo

Spurs have no need to rush. They lose leverage the moment Lebron signs. Until then, they will and should act like they have the leverage.

Spurs have all of the leverage regardless. LeBron ain’t waiting a year for Kawhi to be a free agent he’ll be 35 before the 19-20 season.

Why shouldn't the Spurs demand the moon for Kwahi? Its not their job to set up the Lakers for a championship.

If it were me I wouldn't trade him now and would consider holding onto Kwahi until the trade deadline just out of spite. Some team between now and then will pony up more than Ingram and a draft choice.

and, if what everyone is saying is true and lebron has already decided without caring about what anyone else is doing, this can happen for the Lakers without trading for Kawhi if we just wait for next summer

The very second lebron says he's coming, the leverage the spurs have gets a bullet to the head

because Kawhi is leaving next year regardless and they should get rid of him now while his value is at its highest

This is what happens when a guy comes out and says he wants to play in a specific place. Not sure why it should be a surprise

If this is true then they should absolutely wait until next summer and not trade for him.

But when does that, that team really doesnt have a real motivation to get a deal done. Cause they can just wait for free agency. The team losing the player on the other hand does

Which is fine. They can do that. They will just be losing him for nothing

We will see what happens. If everything you’re saying is true and the Lakers give up Ingram and a pick you should be pissed

But I refuse to believe Lebron is fine with signing with this current Lakers team as is and seeing how it works out. That’s not his style.

Woj said on ESPN that it’s likely Boogie back to Pels on a 2 year deal. DJ opting out killed any small leverage he may have had.

Nope, they don't.

The longer the Spurs wait the less any other team will be willing to trade.

If I'm Magic, I call their bluff and only give what I want (doesn't include Kuzma or first rounder).

If Spurs don't want to deal fine. Kawhi just tells every team he's a rental and reminds them he'll sit out if he wants.... just like this past season.

When the trade season begins again in winter, no one will offer and Spurs will be forced to accept whatever scraps LA throws at them or lose him for nothing.

Everyone else knows they’re getting him for one year. I doubt them waiting impacts offers from the Celtics or Sixers all that much

He’s already done this...

I find it pretty funny Lakers fans are trashing the Spurs front office (one of the best in the NBA) like they don’t know what they’re doing

Also the fact that there isn’t really anywhere logical Boogie could go, unless the Lakers strike out on everybody and make a run at him
