Sounds a lot like the Grant Wahl death a few years back which I think ended up being a heart aneurysm. Severe chest cold symptoms in the weeks leading up, steroid shot that alleviated symptoms. But then add the aneurysm like a week later and passed.

Who knows though, could be a bunch of things

Damn.

Best driver of the last two decades.

You just never know. Hug your loved ones tight. We aren't guaranteed tomorrow.

This one hurts.

RIP Rowdy

Probably more likely he had sinus issues that turned into pneumonia and it went septic.

As good a guess as any.

I was wondering, would they classify an aneurysm as a "serious illness"? I know he was caught up in the wreck on Sunday; could something have happened that they didn't catch from that? I know most aneurysm ruptures are fast and pretty much immediately fatal, but there are some that just leak and cause massive headaches as they slowly progress.

This would fit with someone who spends multiple hours at a time in a car

RIP.

I was at this race. Best race I ever saw live (even though I was hoping both would crash and Harv would win.)

Was the genesis of the "famous" Jr. sound drop "SLIDEJOB!"

They often classify heart attacks as “severe illness” in initial reporting. So wouldn’t surprise me if they treat something similae the same way. “Severe illness” doesn’t really rule anything out other than it does point to a natural cause.

Just goes to show how big this is.

Racing lost a legend and it goes far beyond NASCAR.

I was never a fan of Kyle’s, but his talent was undeniable. Prayers for his wife and children especially.

Such a terrible loss for the racing community.

heart attacks don't often linger for weeks though. he's been having health issues since at least May 10th when he needed a (steroid?) shot for a sinus infection
