Can’t include Alabama on this list.
Idk. The single stripe with number on helmet is a dead giveaway for me. The giant juiced up linebackers are another.

this is one of those awesome message board questions where everyone wants it to be their team even though there is no fricking reason why.

Florida: It’s either their unique Blue unis with orange helmet, or I want to gouge my eyes out with whatever ugly arse thing they decided to wear.
There are a lot of teams who are recognizable in Home, but not Road.

I mix up USC and Iowa state probably the most out of any CFB teams

Are you aware that LSU’s helmets are the exact same yellow used by the Green Bay Packers? It has been my understanding for many years that that is an absolute fact; which definitely explains the confusion. If the helmet is the same I suspect the pant color is as well. I have heard that Green Bay has added metallic flakes their helmet color in recent years. Do not know if that is accurate or not.

Iowa State and USC have looked very similar in past years. Not sure what ISU's helmet is this season.

UGA

Nope. If UGA hadn't decided to not travel out of the South from 1960-2000 then maybe they'd be recognizable outside the South.

But Stewart Mandel showed an UGA helmet to patrons in a bar in Wyoming and those Cowboys said it was Grambling.

So, no, not a National brand...a very regional brand.

As OP said, Michigan is the clear cut #1 Nationally.

Penn State is probably #2.

Dick Schapp related a story of him riding on some train or subway and some guy was humming Hail To the Victors and Schapp went up to him and said: "oh you're a Michigan Alum?" And the guy said, "no, I just love college football."

For just the nationwide average college football fan, that fight song and uniform symbolizes CFB.

Tennessee used to get shown on Magnavox ads forever because they were/are headquartered in Knoxville.

And now they get featured in Dish Network and Sling TV ads because Dish founder, Charlie Ergen, is a UT grad.

By your logic Grambling an FCS school in Louisiana is more recognizable to Wyomings than a team that's been in the national spotlight the past few years

That's just plain false. It's not the biggest brand but it's far larger than regional

its not Michigan, its Notre Dame.

they have their own OTA broadcast network so if I flip on a game on NBC I always know it's Notre Dame.

i think there's a lot of truth to this, as someone who mostly grew up outside of the south

for whatever reason, people just don't know the uga bulldogs like the know alabama, florida, lsu, tennessee

Maybe because of the last few years.

This was an old article back in 2010s or something.

It was in S.I., his mailbag. And he took helmets to bars...

But he said for the so-called major players - you know Top 30 programs, Georgia was the most regional.

Everyone knew Alabama, USC, Penn State, Michigan...but they literally thought UGA was Grambling.

Now, if you're not bigger than an HBCU which is never on TV, how big really are you?

UGA had the worst travel record the last 50 years in the SEC (I think Florida is #2) - they didn't go to the Midwest and they didn't go out West.

They were very insular in the protective confines of the SEC for decades and that's a known fact.

Most schools don't travel across the country every year (except USC and Notre Dame) but UGA took it to an extreme...they scheduled Homes with nobodies and then played their SEC schedule. It's no wonder people thought the G on the helmet was Grambling...Eddie Robinson was more known than UGA. If you want to complain, contact Stewart Mandel but that was his take away.

Everyone lives in a bubble and thinks what they love exists outside that bubble. Sometimes it doesn't. You have to travel, face opponents on the West Coast, Midwest, be on National TV.
