The Yankees roster is so young, I don't understand why they should be in win-now mode. They should be in "stock up young, controllable assets to flip for key pieces in a year or two" mode.

They did that last year. They have nothing else to trade to acquire young assets.

And they have being doing that, and they can make the playoffs right now. This move takes a little away, but it far from ruins their chances of building from within

If players listed are true they are giving from a position of strength. No one who plans to make an impact in two years. The way the bullpen is and with Severino, Montgomery, and CC they could make a little noise and be a pest to a team. Especially with a shut down pen

FWIW, the Yankees have been the fifth best team in baseball by BaseRuns and Pythagorean record. They have played better than their record indicts.

If every single one of Tanaka's mistakes wasn't a slaughtered home run, I'd be confident that he'll have a great 2nd half. When he's not giving up homers, his stuff looks great and he's getting lots of swings and misses.

If he can pitch the way he did vs Boston the Yankees have 4 pitchers I would feel put them in position to win. Bring up Adams and it becomes 5

Well yeah. They're 9-18 in 1-run games and have had the most injuries in all of baseball.

I could list the guys who have spent time on the DL or are out for the year, but it would basically be the whole lineup and half the bullpen.

ETA: Also, the Yankees think they can win the division. And they're probably right. Then they avoid Houston in the ALDS and all bets are off. Ideally Cleveland doesn't win the central.

According to Ken Rosenthal, that approval has been granted by the O’s owner to Dan Duquette as of Tuesday evening. The Orioles aren’t setting up for a complete teardown that would rule them out of contention next year as well as the rest of this year, but they are going to try to add some assets to the system that they wouldn’t get if they completely stood pat.

Kahnle is an amazing controllable asset. He doesn't have the track record of a Miller or a Chapman, but he throws 100+ and has 15 K/9. He has under the radar been one of the top RP in baseball this year.

A great fangraphs article on just how good he's been

Considering what the Yankees got for Miller and Chapman, getting Kahnle and Robertson for Rutherford is a steal. Not to mention the possible fix to the black hole on the corner of the infield.

I'll gladly put the Yankees list of guys up against those teams. And the big losing streak has pretty much coincided with guys like Castro, Holliday, Hicks, Sabathia, etc. missing time.

Dodgers are the first team in 40 years to win 30 out of 34. Is that good?
