If Harper stays in DC, aim for Trout in '20. Chances are they'll pay one of those guys beyond market value. Rumor is Harper has always talked about playing for the Yankees and Trout is from NJ, so I like the Yankees odds for one of those guys.

as @Feinsand 1st reported, also hearing Clippard is part of this deal. That would offset about half what Robertson owed rest of this yr.

Robertson would cost $11.5M toward luxury tax in '18 when #Yankees are trying hard to get under threshold

Lol, I don't see them spending $350m+ for two outfielders. Eventually they're going to need to buy some pitching

My god the Yankees pen will be so nasty if Betances and Chapman get their shite together.

Robertson 2.70 ERA and 47 Ks in 33 innings
Kahnle 2.50 60 Ks 36 IP
Betances 2.97 57 30
Chapman 3.57 25 22
Warren 1.91 37 37
Green 1.75 49 36
Shreve 2.92 29 24

And Holder

Torres 3B
Trout CF
Harper RF
Judge 1B
Sanchez C
Frazier LF
Castro 2B
Gregorius SS
A-Rod DH

GOAT team.

Why would the Yankees make this deal? I don't get it. The Yankees are going nowhere this year even with Todd Frazier and David Robertson. They'll be better next season but they won't be able to compete with the Astros. Why trade huge assets to only get minimally better? Blake Rutherford is the second best hitter in the system.

I don't understand this deal. At all. This feels like a desperation move.

Won't be able to compete with the Astros next season? That's a long way out, and the Yankees should be a good bit better next year than they are this year.

The Yankees are clearly trying to win now. Rutherford is obviously a great talent, but he probably won't be ready for a couple of seasons.

They didn't have to give up any prospects that can help them win in 2017, 2018, and probably 2019 (mainly Torres and Frazier). They got two bullpen arms who will be under control at least until next season. Kahnle is under control for a while.

Before we knew the prospects the Yankees would give up, I was skeptical. But seeing what they gave up, I think it's a deal they had to make.

My guess is the Yankees will flip them. They keep them away from boston.

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't have made the trade, but I feel you are underselling their chances. They are right in the thick of things and any team that makes the playoffs has a shot. Especially a team that can leverage Kahle, Robertson, Betances and Chapman at the back end up the bullpen.

Get all these young guys playoff experience. Cubs contended a year early and look how that propelled them the following season.

No way they flip Kahnle. He wasn't ever going to Boston anyway, though.

I don't think flipping Todd Frazier makes sense, because he meets a position of need for the Yankees. They have gotten the least amount of production at 1st base of any team in the majors by far.

Outside chance they could flip David Robertson, I guess.
