I see I missed a year of salary in my numbers, there was an extra 32 million in there. So it's actually 7 years $208 million plus the potential $10MM buyout so he's got a guaranteed $218 million following his opt out decision.

Like you guys say, the contract is just to much of a burden to trade him. If you're a contending team, you can't really go get him with the hope that he leaves in 3 years and you're off the hook. If you're a good team, there's not much reason to walk away from $218 million. I think he stays put in Miami and opts out just for a shot at the playoffs.

Tucker is an incredibly gifted 20 year old with line of sight to a potential callup on a penant-caliber club in 2018. He's off the table, and that's widely understood. Kind of silly to lead off the list with him and Martes as a trade "that makes sense."

which is fine, you just probably won't get Quintana. There's no problem with deciding a price is too high

Quintana isn't some can't-miss ace, he's just a reliable and relatively cheap starter. Not sure what the allure is to be honest and I personally doubt Lunhow pursues him. Could be wrong though, I'm pretty dumb.

there are a lot of pitchers worth 15 wins over the previous three full seasons with his contract

he's really good with a really valuable contract

Nobody is off the table. The market is going to dictate what we have to pay. Ultimately, if you're Luhnow, you've got a team certainly capable of winning a world series this year. Kyle Tucker is 20 years old and hasn't played above AA. You're weighing him vs proven MLB contributors.

I'd prefer not to trade Tucker. He seems to have a high upside and we're going to need in OF in a few years. He may not be on top of Luhnow's list of tradeable players but he's not untouchable.

Will Myers I thought was untouchable at one point, no one is untouchable. I mean if Q and Kahnle are the missing pieces to a WS you make the move

The Astros farm system is too loaded to give up both of those guys.

Sure and you accomplish that via your warchest of prospects you do have.

Which is headed by Tucker and Martes. Paulino's dumbass suspension costs us a tradeable prospect. I'm with you, I don't want to trade Tucker. But it's not outside the realm of possibilities. I do agree that we've got enough quantities of talent that we shouldn't have to give up Tucker and Martes in one trade. It's one or the other and several other pieces.

@BNightengale says if a team were to trade for Stanton, it wouldn't have to give up elite prospects if it took on his $$$.

And i Wouldn't give up Reyes for Donaldson, let alone the other 2 top prospects for the org.

lol he isnt fricking opting out.

his contract is tradable too. 27 yr old that is in his prime and is capable of leading the league in HRs any given year.

We'll see won't we? The opt out clause wouldn't have been included without the thought that he might use it. If Miami is still a bottom feeder in 3 years, it's not some absurdity that he might opt out and look to go to a contender. At 31 years old, he could still pull something close to the $200 million he'd leave on the table with the current contract.

its almost 300 million for 10 years for a guy who isnt the same defensive player he was a few years ago and has only played more than 120 games in a season twice in his career

if this was still 2014 id be willing to go for it. now i have my doubts
