There's no reason to have any faith in Morton or mchugh. The astros 100% will add a starter. They are loaded with MLB ready prospects. They will control the deadline if they want to

Agreed. McHugh and Morton are huge question marks health and performance wise.

Yankees move players like Frazier or Adams will be totally against what they've preached the past few years. Adams is MLB ready right now, he has nothing left to prove in the minors.

1.78 ERA between A and A+ ball
2.33 ERA between A+ and AA ball
1.85 ERA between AA and AAA ball this year

I don't think it'd cost both those guys. You'll like have to give up 1 tho

If the Cardinals give up the farm for Josh Donaldson I'm going to stop watching

I mean you guys don't even really have a farm to trade unless you start dealing major league talent

4 of baseball prospectus midseason top 50 prospects.

They have the guys on the farm to go after people. I just hope it's not a 32 year old, injury plagued 3B

I'd love Ozuna or Yelich.

Agree. Nothing is in stone, but Lunhow has stated that Tucker won't be dealt, and there's no way that he would be in a deal for Quintana.

Morton, and McHugh get healthy.

Morton has pitched decently this season but there's really no reason to count on him being healthy from post break through the playoffs. He'll likely end up on the DL again.

With McHugh, I think it's a pretty lofty expectation to think he comes back and pitches effectively right away and stays healthy the rest of the season. I'm not counting on much from him.

Trading for Quintana gives me pause based on his year so far and the expected cost. He did pitch much better in June.

As of now, I'd kind of like to go after Gray or Stroman if he comes available.

Cardinals have a top10/15 Farm system with some top end pitching, MLB ready OFers, and one of top catching prospects in minors , and he's MLB ready.(stupid molina deal)

They have plenty of pieces to get them a Bopper, and another player or 2. Might have to wait till offseason for 1 of those players. They will take a flyer on JD Martinez.

I just dont think Mo is a good enough GM to get a big deal done.

And trading for Donaldson would be a stupid move. You get him for next season, and he's already 31. pass.

Yankees drama
quote:

Much as the Torres and Fowler injuries were downright heartbreaking, the Bird mystery ankle bruise has become merely annoying. Despite numerous tests that have turned up nothing, Bird continues to insist the ankle is still sore — too sore to allow him to play. The Yankee brass has become exasperated with Bird, who’s never been able to stay healthy, and it has gotten to the point where if he doesn’t get back on the field after the All-Star break, they are prepared to move him over the winter.

“You really have to wonder what’s with this guy,” a Yankee insider complained to me earlier this week. “You’d think with Judge and Sanchez, the guys he came up through the system with, doing so well up here he’d want to be a part of this. Apparently not.”

Bob Nightingale claims Marlins will have a fire sale.

The #Marlins bracing themselves for sale of team, and then firesale of players, once All-Star Show leaves town.

New owners want the debt gone(500mil in debt and growing), and contracts, especially Stantons contract, which is one of them.

He can opt out after 2020 which leaves him at 3 years $77 million remaining. He very well might opt out just to get away from the Marlins as he'll be 31 years old.

If he opts out he's walking away from 7 years $208 million guaranteed. Plus an 8th year 2028 club option for $25MM that has a $10MM buyout.

Is 7/208 would be a reasonable expectation for a 31 year old power hitter in the free market? Maybe. So if he does get traded to a more competent franchise with a playoff future, is there any reason he'd opt out? Probably doubtful.

I'd hate to own that contract though... As much as I love watching Stanton I don't think he is worth the deal

Right. He has a player opt in after 2020. If he is on a contender, he will most likely opt in to the final 7 years of his deal and then whoever trades for him now will deal with 10 years at a little under 300 million

I really am not sure how much of a marker there is for that
