re: MLB Trade Rumors: 07/31/17 Darvish/Cingrani to Dodgers, Kintzler to the Nats

As we discussed yesterday, any trade for a legitimate bat would involve Reyes, Kelly, or Weaver... and then more. The Cards don't have a deep farm system so not sure they can pull this off without gutting their farm system completely.

Gonna be hard to get Donaldson with one top 50ish prospect and some other B level guys. There will be plenty of teams after him

o% chance for Reyes, very small chance of Kelly, Weaver far more likely. Dont forget players like Wong, Diaz, and Wacha can all be moved too

Weaver will be a good one, agreed tho, more will have to be involved.

Wong
No one will want him, he has proven he can't stick at the MLB level

Diaz
I'm high on him but I didn't realize his age till doing research last night, also that last season was an outlier for him in terms of production
quote:
Wacha
Teams won't be looking for a middle of the rotation guy who is a Free Agent at the end of the year

Ya, picked him up late, took him a few years to get up. similar to piscotty.

He is older than Priscotty with less MLB time and wasn't very good prior to being sent down. I thought he was 22-23 last year and could get straightened out but knowing he is 27 changes things.

Seems like this has occurred right about the time they got caught hacking the Astros

At least they were able to build some depth in the farm with some quality early draft picks this year

Meh after the 2015 system they were ranked 19th so it isn't like they were great before the news broke either.

Graduating outfielders Stephen Piscotty and Randal Grichuk from the prospect rankings and trading Rob Kaminsky sends the St. Louis Cardinals down several spots in these rankings, but there is still no team better at drafting and developing talent in-house.
Also, they do still have one elite prospect in right-hander Alex Reyes, who has quickly climbed into the conversation with Lucas Giolito, Julio Urias and Tyler Glasnow for the title of top pitching prospect in baseball. The 21-year-old went 5-7 with a 2.49 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 101.1 innings while holding hitters to a .197 average. Jack Flaherty, the team's first-round pick in 2014, quietly had a nice year in Single-A as well, where he went 9-3 with a 2.84 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 95 innings. The guys to watch will be the young trio of Magneuris Sierra, Edmundo Sosa and 2015 first-round pick Nick Plummer, as all three have tremendously high ceilings but a ways to go in their development.

mainly just saying him and piscotty feel like their young bucks, when its not the case.

So you are not going to package anything around them...
Maybe Weaver, Flaherty, and Perez? but that is 3 of your top 10 prospects but prospects that are all ranked outside of the Top 50

lol if you think you can trade for Donaldson or Stanton without giving up Reyes's or Kelly or most likely both
Posted on 7/6/17 at 12:40 pm to Lester Earl
As I said the only way they do that is to eat some bad contracts as well...
With Donaldson they would have to almost take Tulo or Martin
With Stanton they would have to take Volquez, Chen, or Zeigler I would think

How much longer is abreu under contract?
Posted on 7/6/17 at 12:50 pm to BayouBengals03
ARB eligible in 2018 and 2019 and UFA in 2020, he signed a 1 year 10.8 million dollar contract before this season

The Nationals, who've dealt with a struggling bullpen all season, reportedly are interested in Reds closer Raisel Iglesias, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Nats need to add about 4 bullpen arms right now. They have no chance in the playoffs with that bullpen.
