Source confirms the Mets' return for Jason Vargas is 26-year-old catcher Austin Bossart, who was hitting .195/.303/.335 at Double-A. A rival evaluator described him as a good defender without much offense to his game, as the numbers testify.

Braves exploring the outfield market per Nightengale.
Makes a lot of sense considering the current OF of Acuña and the misfits. Markakis supposed to be back in September but unplayable vs. lefties. Duvall mashing lefties in AAA but unproven at the big league level. Inciarte showing signs of life but horrendous overall numbers. Riley in the midst of a 2 month long cold spell that will likely land him in AAA. Then Camargo, Culberson, Joyce who they want to keep flexible off the bench.
A lot of bodies but only one reliable guy to plug in. Marte would be very, very interesting. He is Acuña’s best friend in the game outside of Albies.

Cardinals seem to be highly interested in Robbie Ray or Greinke. I’d love either. I love trade deadline time!

Reddick for keuchel straight up.

Reds need to make a push. 6 1/2 games out of division and we are never in contention so yolo. Let’s get some pieces!

@Feinsand
I've heard some executives question whether the Mets will actually move Syndergaard by Wednesday, and the same for the Indians and Bauer. One GM I spoke with expects both to be traded and -- here's the fun part -- he tabs the Yankees and Astros as frontrunners to land Bauer.

I just don't know about the Astros and Bauer. They are so big on clubhouse chemistry and I think there would have to be a lot of awkward conversations to be had if Bauer showed up in town. The Bauer-Cole dynamic and the Bauer-Bregman dynamic would be interesting.
But...Bauer does have a few former teammates in Houston, most notably Uncle Mike. I just don't see it working...but that's my free 2 cents.

Word is the Reds are in the market to sell, not buy. Puig to St. Louis would be nice.

Mets traded Vargas for a 26-year-old catcher hitting .161 in AA, wtf
Hopefully there will be a 30 for 30 regarding the Mets 2019 trade deadline moves.

Everybody would have a common goal but Bregman and Bauer have a rocky past at best, Cole and Bauer hate each other and Bauer has run his mouth about the Astros organization as a whole in the past. It hardly seems like a seamless fit and its not a situation where you ask your guys to just tolerate him for 2 months.

Teams started ruling out #Jays closer Ken Giles on Sunday when he didn’t pitch because of elbow soreness, and now that he sat out again Monday, his trade value is gone until this winter
-Nightengale so take with grain of salt but there’s multiple reports of the elbow soreness

I'd be more worried about the brain swelling with Giles.

that mother fricker ran his mouth about the Braves this year too. He got bitchy about the Braves patient approach against him which drove up the pitch count knocking him out after five lmao

Scared to go back to a contender.

Bauer going to Yankees would be like John Rocker going to the Mets. The first time he pulls a stunt like he did Sunday in K.C. the New York media would be on him like Rosie O'Donnell when the hot light goes up at Krispy Kreme.
