I think it’s clear the house & NCAA will agree to a revenue sharing model. It is not a cap on NIL
Posted on 2/22/25 at 8:52 pm to Tiger Prawn
quote:New NIL deals with "affiliated individuals or entities" (a definition which effectively includes collectives and anyone who has made a significant contribution to the school over the course of their life) over $600 will be subject to approval for "fair market value" through a clearinghouse (run by Deloitte, I think). No, they do not count against rev share, but that is where the "old deals" are grandfathered in--they are not subject to that same scrutiny and approval process.
Why would existing NIL deals need to be grandfathered?
The schools are not a party to the contract with the existing NIL system. Those deals are between the player and a 3rd party collective or business. So none of that counts against the limits of what the schools have to pay players directly with the new changes coming.

schools will find ways to pay players
They always have and always will, it’s just that the pay scale has changed.

You obviously don't know minus a qb, there are 21 other players it takes to win games. Thank God you're not my accountant. I'll go on record to say Underwood will be more sizzle than steak at Michigan. Simply average. Enjoy your evening

NIL doesn’t come from the university AD budget (lol!!) So it’s not part of this.

Paying one player 20% of all your tital NIL payments will come back to destroy the programs. Football is predicted to have a 10-12 million per year payout.
Did you know that before NIL, players were paid in college football. Huh makes you think one of the 4 wealthiest men in the world with all of his business acumen and running a $52 billion a year business probably couldn’t figure out how to get the kid paid. about to mention Portnoy and every other michigan blow hard.

Of curse a cap comes when the SEC realized they can't out spend other programs when it's all legal and not under the table payments. I'm looking at you Alabama

I'm actually glad he passed on LSU
I doubt it.

2025 is going to be a good one for Tiger fans. Nuss made the correct decision to come back.
Doubt those also. Nussmeier is a turnover machine.

1st year starters tend to do that. He's played in hostile environments, and got his feet wet. At least he didn't lose to Vanderbilt LOL

The amount is not the problem here. It’s having 18 year old unproven kids in a bidding war for their services..
You can bitch and moan all day long about it, but it’s total bullshite that some kid can make a billion dollars on Tik tok, but couldnt get paid to play college football.
Not only is it bullshite, but a lot of the shite lawmakers are proposing is almost certainly unconstitutional

You misunderstand. I have zero problems with college players getting something for what they mean to the school. It’s the free agent part of it I don’t like. And the Tom Tom thing is way different….

You must have hated the amateurism rules in every sport

You might really be the moron everyone is saying you are. This is literally in the link that you provided.

Now it is not far-fetched to look ahead to seasons when a star quarterback or a top prospect on a college basketball team not only is cashing in big-money NIL deals but also has a $100,000 school payment in the bank to play.

I hope nothing bad physically happens for the young man, but I certainly will not feel bad if he's not the success everyone believes he will be. It would have been one thing had he left LSU early in the process, but he "runaway brided" them.

Amateurism is fine, why a person can’t make money off of their own popularity hasn’t made sense to me ever. I was banging the table that Tim Tebow and Jonny Football should have been able to cash in on their fame in college.
It’s anti american

He got the god father offer in the 12th hour. I can’t blame another person for taking that, it’s just business. If you’re mad at anybody, it should be Portnory and the Oracle guy, not the young kid taking the bag.
We understand and side with other players all the time for taking the best offer, as you would too

I can be, and I am, frustrated with everyone involved. I can understand why he left, but still be irritated because it affected the team I root for. It's the duality of man.

You do realize it is 12million TOTAL, right? Not annually.

So with House and NCAA deal on horizon with a 20-22million dollar cap per year for nil payments. Paying one player 20% of all your tital NIL payments will come back to destroy the programs. Football is predicted to have a 10-12 million per year payout. So Underwood is gonna take up 25-40% of football nil.
They are already expecting a mass exodus of top players from Michigan.
Are you sure private donations count towards this. Last i heard they were talking about money from schools/collectives being capped, not that amazon couldnt pay a player 12 million to be in a commercial or a rich donor couldnt pay a player for his likeness.

The House settlement is going to ultimately be a big nothing-burger and quickly litigated out of any real impact. The donors will quickly find away around it.
