Is this a new trend or special circumstance for the Mets? I haven't watched very much MLB over the past several seasons so I'm not current on the most recent analytics. I briefly caught the announcers saying it was to keep their SP from facing the top of the lineup more than once.

how the hell does a team with that much talent suck that bad?

They are 15 games out of the division in June. They are paying a shite ton of money for their ineptitude

This has been going on for years. They're called openers and bulk guys.

Did they mean twice?

If a starter can't go through the lineup twice (usually 4 or 5 innings) in most starts, then he shouldn't be a starter.

Come in, give up a leadoff double off the wall, get replaced by Grant Taylor.

I believe they are called "Fluffers" in another industry.

Well apparently, he isn't. Looks like the "middle-reliever" is the starter

The Rays really popularized it to start the 2018 season. It should be done more but people are stubborn

Rangers did it a few weeks ago with Kumar Rocker. He had almost 7 IP after coming into game in second inning.
