Two months removed from going undrafted in the 2018 MLB Draft, it appears Luke Heimlich has made no headway in becoming a professional baseball player in America, and will head overseas.

The recent Oregon State University graduate was one of the best pitchers in college baseball last year, but he’s also a convicted child molester, which has deterred MLB teams from adding him to their roster.

In early 2017, a story in The Oregonian revealed Heimlich pleaded guilty to molesting his 6-year-old niece when he was 15. He was not drafted through all 40 rounds of both last year andthis year’s draft, despite having early-round potential.

Since his conviction came to light, Heimlich has insisted that he is innocent, and took poor legal advice in the name of simplifying matters for his family.

Rumors that Major League teams, including the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles, were considering signing as a free agent him have cropped up since, to no avail. A number of team executives told Yahoo Sports that they were worried about the potential for backlash, despite consulting with MLB officials on how best to address the situation.

The biggest bullshite in the history of sports, the only reason this is happening to this young man WHO SHOULD BE making millions in the majors is a clerical error by the Oregon state police, I do not feel well for Heimlich

Yeah not the fact that he fingered a 4 year old or anything.

Just to clarify the Chinese Professional Baseball League is in Taiwan. He's not actually going to mainland China.

ETA: The league doesn't get scouted nearly as much as Japan and Korea. I think it's only down to 4 teams. There have been a bunch of game fixing scandals, which is part of the reason MLB teams don't try to sign players from there.

Not defending anything, but no one would've known had it not been for the clerical error and likely no one would ever know once the court records of that case got sealed 2 months after that story broke

How is he going to maneuver his way out of this?

So the NCAA is the only athletic organization that would have him?

This is interesting to me. Whether the guy actually did what he was accused of or not is irrelevant because in the eyes of the US criminal justice system he admitted that he did (regardless of claims of poor advice, mistake in judgment pleading, etc.).

He is a convicted felon. But does that mean he should NEVER be able to be employed again? Or is that just limited to professional baseball? Certainly private businesses should have the right to decline employment to anyone they choose. But in recent years we've seen a big push, largely from liberals, that employers should no longer even be allowed to ask if an applicant is a convicted felon. So is the outrage just limited to professional baseball? Or, is there going to be outrage anytime he seeks employment in any field? Or, is child molestation just one of those crimes that is unforgivable to any degree?

Also, no one would have known about it if he never did it in the first place.

I get that OR screwed up, but there's just no comparison to the culpability for the underlying molestation.

You are though.

You literally said the ONLY reason this is happening is because of the paper. Not the fact that he fricking molested a child.

The only reason the paper was able to release that info is because HE did it in the first place.

Shift blame all you want, but it will always come back to the child molester. He is the only one to blame for his karma.

Professional sports teams make money on good press. This is not good press.

Nobody is stopping the MLB or any company for hiring him or signing him, they just dont want to. That's there right. Plenty of talented guys sitting at home for doing less.

To what degree should it be forgivable? He didnt even serve jail time. I mean, I cant think of any careers where being a child molester is a desirable trait...

For now, child molestation is mostly frowned upon.
