That’s the same kind of analytic nerd ruining sports. Can’t see two inches in front of his thick rimmed glasses.

I’m sure his emphasis of those points are MUCH smaller than they should be.

Hmmm... didn't the Tropicana resort in Vegas already shut down because that's where the new stadium is being built?

Las Vegas mayor says A’s should work on staying in Oakland

I just read this story and immediately wondered what the frick kind of mayor would say some bullshite like this?

The A's owner, John Fisher, should launch a full on assault on her. If I was a Vegas resident, I'd have to wonder what's wrong with my mayor.

I have not heard of anyone wanting this team in town.
No paperwork has been signed, by anyone for this move.
Casino needed another "reason" other than, "we want to blow up old casino and build new". The "gift" of 9 acres...yes NINE acres, to build a stadium....
... whole lot of vegas shenanigans are going on.

Stayed tuned!

She said that the A's relocation plans to the Tropicana site don't "make sense" to her, explaining that the city had offered the A's what she believed to be a superior site -- one located in a historic part of town that featured seven access points from local highways. The A's rejected that site, opting instead to be located on The Strip. That decision perturbed the mayor, who repeatedly noted that the area suffers from traffic congestion woes.

Building a stadium is usually step 1 in gentrification, and Vegas is 0/2 on implementation

The math isn’t the same for Vegas.
81 games a year to bring in convention sized crowds potentially… that spend a shite ton on gambling, alcohol, and $20 burgers. And hookers.

My guess is the mayor has $$ on the location she wants.

San Fran is ok, but it’s stunning how a city like San Fran can be so close to such a horrible disgusting place like Oakland…..

The A's ballpark is planned for a nine-acre parcel on the Las Vegas Strip and Goodman said the congestion makes the site less attractive than a larger site in north Las Vegas, which she proposed. However, the mayor and the city do not have jurisdiction over the Strip, which falls under the oversight of Clark County

Also something to keep in mind- the A's lease with the City of Oakland at the Coliseum ends this year. There is no firm plan yet for a new stadium in Las Vegas, with current estimates seeing a completion around 2028. The A's will need a place to play home games while they wait for the new stadium to be built. The City of Oakland has really no incentive to work with the A's owner to extend a lease while waiting for the the Las Vegas stadium to be completed.

Also, if the A's don't play in the SF Bay area they'll most likely need to renegotiate their broadcast rights with RSN. All the options to host the A's for the potential three years are outside of the Bay area.

Yeah they struggle to get conventions and crowds in general to come to Vegas.

The studies are clear spending tax dollars on projects like this is a waste.

Her husband is/was a drunk and a mob lawyer, as I knew he represented Tony The Ant Spilotro well before I heard he was running for mayor.

Not sure what her qualifications were other than Oscar being term limited out IIRC.

And this is exactly why she is pushing this IMHO.

They don’t want an MLB franchise building where they can’t hold them up.

The statement aside, I can’t see Vegas supporting a baseball team like they do the Raiders. I picture a lot of empty seats in August.

It will be like Anaheim, half of the crowd will be visiting fans in summer.

How many studies studied Las Vegas?
A funny thing about studies is when you have a preconceived notion, it’s pretty amazing how a study aligns with it…

I’m no fan of taxpayer subsidized stadiums, but they are often paid for by tourist hotel taxes, etc… so you can clearly fund it if needed.

Even if 10,000 people come from out of town for a game… that’s the worst attendance in MLB…and it was Oakland… that’s almost a million visitors. And you know fans are far more likely to make a trip to Vegas than Oakland or other boring destinations… attendance will be high. The Raiders essentially sold out every game, and they weren’t good. The Knights sell out.

$1.5 billion is peanuts these days.

The math isn’t the same as a local stadium for a city like Milwaukee, where the bulk of fans don’t spend the night.

Some Las Vegas account on X said someone surveyed the land. But it's too small for the stadium the Athletics want. But with the brutal heat there, there's no point building a partially retractable roof. It won't be open but for a couple of games a year anyway. They're better off just building a fixed roof if they are determined to build on that site. And it doesn't sound like Fisher has the money to pay for it either.
