The 'Lane Kiffin Rule' now comes with a one-year suspension for the head coach if they were to accept another coaching job midseason, in 'Protect College Sports Act'

"In the event an individual who accepts employment, appointment, or designation as head coach of a varsity sports team for intercollegiate football at another institution violates this section, that individual shall be ineligible to assume the duties as head coach of the varsity sports team for intercollegiate football at the hiring institution for the subsequent competitive season after the season in which the violation occurred.."

Should it pass congress, that is

Players are sniffing the transfer portal at halftime of week 1, but we need a Lane Kiffin rule.

Do they know many more coaches than Kiffin would be in violation of that stupid rule?

18-21 year olds want to be treated like adults, but also want adults held to a different standard. That’s chicken shite. They’re all paid employees at this point.

The only reason for Congress to have any involvement in college sports is because the courts have clearly said the NCAA can't enforce rules around NIL and eligibility.

Outside of that, there is nothing Congress needs to be creating new regulation around.

Wouldn't Sumrall have violated this rule even though he was allowed to coach Tulane in the Playoffs?

Along with Matt Campbell, Kirby Moore, Bob Chesney, etc?

Are they saying when the specific school season ends or when the entire NCAA football schedule is finished as in the National Championship is concluded?

That screws every coach over then. I can’t see a single coach being in favor of this, nor universities. This puts their programs significantly behind the 8 ball in recruiting when you aren’t allowed to hire a coach until after bowl season.

Did he leave mid season? They played the last regular season game. Also, coaches can’t be fired mid season?

haha ok.
Define mid-season?

The problem is with the entire college football calender and the portal. This is a silly "rule", and beyond that, why the frick is congress setting rules on how college football is run. I didn't elect any politician to decide how college football should be run.

Curious what the deadline date is. Is it when current team is done for year including playoffs, or when new team is done? Or both?

What if current team is done end of Nov with no bowl. New team plays 30 Dec.

And what about a fired coach? If fired on 15 Nov can they move on or have to wait for a certain date?

Lane left at the end of the Ole Miss regular season. If they are calling not coaching a bowl game as leaving midseason then that is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard of

How do they define "midseason" much less how do they define the season of a sport:
Is it the first competitive game of the season through to the final game even if it doesn't include that team?
Does it include practices in spring, early summer or the July onwards for football.
How about the summer college gasketball activities.

And then there is track and field that can happen anywhere any time.

And let's involve players who choose to stop playing midseason ....do they get a pass on their activities for the next year.

How about Spurrier who quit midseason and how long did it take him to go back to Florida?

Makes zero sense.

So now an up and coming coach can't accept a big time job offer until 3-4 weeks after early signing day because he'll have to finish coaching in a meaningless bowl game in late December or early January. And if its a G5 coach making a playoff run, the transfer portal will already be open before he can accept a new job.

Fix the calendar. Get rid of early signing day. Start bowl season and the CFP earlier. And don't open the transfer portal window until after the national title game. No other sport in the world has free agency open in the middle of their playoffs.
