So did Sumrall. Only difference is Tulane didn’t throw a fit and not let him coach in the playoffs.

True and a fair point. However, Sumrall didn’t leave for a conference rival either. Kiffin to LSU was a unique situation that won’t happen very often.

So? Fact is two playoff teams had their coaches announce they were leaving before the playoffs started.

easiest thing to do is move the transfer window to only after spring, more signing day back to Feb and no early enrollees

so lets do this
should a lawyer not be able to leave a firm for a rival firm because he is in the middle of a court case?
should doctors not be able to leave their current employer because they have on going patients?
should a sales person not be able to change companies because they have pending orders?
should a plant operator not be able to accept employment at a different plant because his existing plant is in the middle of a turnaround?
should an engineer not be allowed to change employers because he may be in the middle of a project?
bottom line is this, the courts have made it very very clear, other than buyout language, you can not restrict freedom of movement when it comes to employment

if it was in his contract sure. but no coach would accept such a contract. that is what buyout language is for
and then on top of that the courts have consistently ruled that non competes are very limited in scope and must show that the employee leaving to go a the new company cause irreparable harm and even then, they wouldnt be allowed across state lines
pretty much this is DOA in any court in the land. The only way this works is if congress gave the NCAA an anti trust exemption and allowed them to make their own rules where courts couldnt rule on these things only if the NCAA followed its own rules

Right, but there would have been much less of a media circus over Kiffin leaving if he had gone to a school out of conference. The correct answer isn’t being reactive to a unique situation that is extremely rare, but it’s being proactive to prevent the situation from ever happening again. And all they have to do is change the calendar.

Says a lot about his character to me, but I guess everyone already knew he is a snake anyways. In a perfect world he would be a failure at LSU, but with their resources even I could probably get them into the playoffs.

Anyone can do anything they want to do. Still doesn’t make it right. Plus, nice strawman there. I bet before the season Kiffin was all like one team one goal type of BS and then he quit on the team in the middle of the playoffs.

Ole Miss threw a fit when they realized their place in the college sports landscape. LSU was going to let Kiffin finish the season. Tulane let Sumrall do it.
Lane didn't run away in November like so many Ole Miss fans want you to think.
