There’s no way this stands, at least that’s what I’m telling myself. On the other hand I don’t even trust the NCAA to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time so who knows how effective their challenge will be

Definitive proof that financial success is not necessarily tied to intellectual competence or character. Imagine being an alum of the school with that guy leading the freaking board.

This could then get appealed to the Texas Supreme Court, right?

I figure the NCAA will try to fight this to the very top.
the problem is timelines. By the time we get there, season is over.

This is all the NCAA's fault. Going all the way back to well before the Ed O'Bannon stuff, they had ample opportunity to work with its athletes to come to a fair agreement in helping them monetarily beyond a scholarship, or just not being total dicks in certain cases, like the football player who had a t-shirt business on the side that had nothing to do with football, but the NCAA tried to collect because they said he's making the money because he's an NCAA player.

bruh, Sorsby was gambling while also receiving (with) NIL money. A gambling bylaw has frick all to with whether or not athletes should have been getting paid prior. Unless your argument is that the Ed O'Bannon case made athletes realize they can sue the NCAA if something happens they don't like, which is a bit of a stretch to make that connection.

No, all of this proves how right the ncaa was to be Nazis on all pay. The slippery slope was real. It should be zero pay at all while in college

Can Hunter Dekkers now sue the NCAA for damages? Had to go to community college after getting suspended for gambling. Has made NFL practice squads since so in theory he could've been drafted if not for the NCAA.

The only solution to this shite show is making the athletes sign contracts

Bruh, my point has nothing to do with Sorsby being a scumbag and everything to do with the NCAA kicking the can down the road to the point now where scumbags can win in court vs the NCAA.

Cody Campbell playing the innocent bystander here is freaking hilarious.

frick that guy

How about having an ounce of integrity and not circling the wagons for a QB who crossed the biggest red line in all of sport?

That left college athletics well before a lot of us were born.

Then they should have enforced their rules equally instead of being arbitrary. They have nobody to blame except themselves.

They’ve never been arbitrary about this particular rule, to my knowledge.

I was speaking generally. They opened themselves up to losses like this long ago.

you're trying to connect athletes suing for extra years of eligibility with gambling. It's not a good argument.

The NCAA kicking the can down the road on athletes getting paid or their eligibility rules has nothing to do with gambling. There are gambling bylaws in every sport at every level, college and professional. Players have been banned for life in other sports for doing what Sorsby did. Players have been criminally ptrosecuted for doing the type of stuff Sorsby did. This has nothing to do with "the NCAA kicking the can down the road."

I disagree. This is a clear cut issue in the NCAA’s favor. Prior unrelated court verdicts and mismanagement shouldn’t have any bearing on this case.

Does the NCAA have the worst lawyers ever. How is it possible for them to practically lose every court case possible.
