Oh but it is though

if you ignore all the objective data on the outcomes of their lawsuits

The NCAA has prevailed 25 times at the preliminary injunction phase.

They have not prevailed 13 times

I don’t even understand why Texas tech would want anything to do with this circus anymore

It's too late for them to get another QB and I'm sure they've already paid Sorsby money that would take a long time to recover in court. I guess they made the calculated decision that they'd rather fight the NCAA than Sorsby in court.

I still don't understand how this works in practice. Ok, a judge says you can play football and make your NIL money, I get that, but what prevents the NCAA from just invalidating any game he plays in?

Contempt of court for the NCAA to do that.

eta: Not a lawyer, but saw something along this line with the Bediako case.

None because they banned people that did this

How in god’s name hasn’t Tech kicked him off the team?

Because he's their starting QB who their boosters (purportedly) paid a hefty sum for and there is no time/way for TTU to get a comparable new QB for this season. No matter what anyone likes to think they believe, or in a perfect world wants to believe, the reality is all fans care about are W's/L's.

If the coaching staff goes 6-6, 7-5 with a substandard QB because the starter was kicked off the team, members of the staff get fired. If the staff goes 11-1, 12-0 with a QB who bet on games in which his team was involved, the staff gets bonuses and raises...because fans ONLY care about the results of their team. They don't care by what means they were achieved.

None.

There has always been a hard ban rule for this in real sports leagues. If there is any doubt that players are shaving points or gambling on their own teams, the sport will be lost. At that point, it becomes a sideshow like professional wrestling.

Side note:

Doesn't Sorsby still owe Cincinnati $1 million?

the problem is timelines. By the time we get there, season is over.
still worth it for the ncaa. If they can’t even enforce their rules anymore there’s no reason for them to exist

2 game suspension against mighty Abeline Christian and Oregon State. NCAA may as well not exist.

So betting on your own team is essentially legal now in college sports?

Now Campbell is playing the victim and says it's the NCAA's fault that Sorsby is now eligible someone should really take this guy's account away. He's other being intentionally obtuse or really is that stupid to equate NIL/transfer portal chaos to what Sorsby did.

quote:

Last week @CharlieBakerMA made an equivocal statement and failed to endorse the bipartisan Cruz/Cantwell bill, that is aimed at and will be effective in bringing order to chaos. This week Charlie and the NCAA are begging for Congressional support and intervention.

Blame Texas Tech, blame agents, blame plaintiffs attorneys, blame me and other boosters…hell, blame whoever you want...But if you want to know why college sports are in such a mess, look no further than right here.

Tech should do the right thing.

A player cannot bet on his team and still play the game. No matter what bullshite addiction excuse there is. I hope they lose every game and people question every frick up Sorsby makes.

Also Sorsby is a POS. If he had any integrity he would accept his punishment and move on.

Period.

Not sure there is a more important rule.

This is absolutely unreal. The bias is too strong with these local judges.
