Now, I should add the reasons why I feel its unlikely Hamilton hits the high end of his projections, and is more likely to be in the bottom end:
-- He's a drug addict. There's always the chance of relapse, especially moving to LA. The Rangers have bent over backwards for this guy, and I don't think the Angels will.
-- Injuries. He's already amassing a bunch of nagging injuries which start to become major injuries when you're on the wrong side of 30. He's never been durable.
-- He's moving from one of the best hitting parks in baseball to one of the worst. He's making the Adrian Beltre move in reverse, who went from Dodger Stadium and Safeco to Fenway and Arlington.

Damn. I'm wondering just what the Rangers' FO has been doing this offseason. After whiffing on Greinke, et al you would think they would've gone back to Josh.
Rangers are going to need Moreland, Olt, Profar and others to step it up... BIG time. There's going to be a lot of production that is gone due to who has left.
In Jon we trust, I guess...

I think it is strange that the Rangers are not willing to pay and even overpay. Most of their core is in their 30's. The window is closing in a sense with some of these guys because I would pretty surprised if Olt, Profar, and other are ready to be quality big league players come April.
I really do not understand the future argument in this specific scenario. You go for the World Series when you have the chance. They have been on the brink recently, but it seems quite difficult for them to pass the AL's elite.
The Rangers have a bright future, but I would be going all in for a World Series even if they had a Phillies-esque demise a couple years down the road.

I think Michael Young's contract left a better taste in their mouth. It's made them a little gun shy with big contracts for older players.

Rangers had their window and Nolan et al realize it.
The goal in the short term is to remain competitive while building for 4-5 years out with their loaded farm system.
It's tough to get back to, much less win, a WS with what happened with the core of this group.

True. I agree that Daniels has shied away from big-time deals cause you get can fricked in the latter half. However, I think a contender should have to take that risk.

agreed... keeping hamilton might not have been the smartest baseball move, but if he gives you the best shot at winning the WS in the immediate future, why not take on the risk?...
their starting pitching probably isn't there to begin with anyway.

That was NEVER going to happen. When Nolan called him out that was the sign they were moving on without him, so I'm not surprised Josh didn't give the Rangers the chance to match the offer (I doubt they would have anyway).
And I wasn't that impressed with Greinke's numbers. Then again when has any top-level pitcher wanted to come to Texas? (Do you really think Darvish signs with Texas if the posting rules didn't force him to do so or lose out on an MLB career in his prime? I don't.)

Moreland isn't going to improve over where he is. He's at best a platoon 1B.
Olt and Profar, as I've said before, are at least a year away, but it now looks like they're going to be thrown to the wolves.

Hopefully Cincinnati has no GM openings or he'll do a Tuberville. And I'm afraid after this year we've seen the last of Coke Kitty.

It kinda hurts to be a Rangers fan right now, not only seeing Josh Hamilton go, but going to the division rivals no less. But having Jon Daniels as your GM helps things, especially when he says stuff like this:
Rangers GM Jon Daniels on Angels: They were a great team on paper beforehand. They’re a great team on paper now.

Pretty tepid response to this signing in LA, judging by the local radio.
Starting pitching is a question mark.
Bullpen was inconsistent as hell last year.

Weaver/Wilson/Hanson/Blanton are very serviceable and have position players to get an arm like Dickey (BLAH BLAH injury risk OMG)

Josh Hamilton will be found passed out in a Mexican whorehouse before the All-Star break. He's gonna give fans fits over on the left coast.

Trying to fit players into an aging pattern is almost statistically impossible, we have the general bell curve and that's about as food as it gets very few players actually follow it. Some guy tried to find different patterns of aging. He kept having to add new aging patterns and finally gave up when he got to about 30. It's just way to difficult to predict what a player will do next season much less 6 seasons from now.

Angels stacked damn.
Can Detroit compete?

I know. Maybe I worded what I was saying wrong.
Hamilton & Guerrero compare to this point in their career; that's not random, just facts.
What is random is It just so happens Guerero fell off a cliff at age 32. That is completely coincidental. Yes, that is worst case to the "T". Honestly you won't find many players with that kind of decline at that young of an age.
And like I said, playing in the AL is going to help a lot. Plenty of former great position players hit into their mid-late 30's because of the DH
