Rankings less than 4 games into a season are always comical.

Y'all bitch about preseason polls. Then when there is a drastic change to correct the preseason polling, y'all bitch. So which way do you want it?

Moving FSU from Unranked to top 10 off. 1 win against a highly overrated Bama team isn’t correcting a flawed preseason poll.

Yes FSU is being elevated so that if Bama gets back into contention FSU can be held up as a reasonable loss.

Then they should’ve ranked FSU at least in the top 25 pre season if you wanted to justify them swinging all the way into the top 10 after beating what I think everyone agrees looks like an extremely shaky Bama team.

And to Lsupride yes, I am ok with teams like UGA and others being ranked where they are an FSU shouldn’t be in the top 10. UGA just for one example won the SEC last year and has a proven track record of success. FSU won two games last year. If you must do early season rankings I think you should take into account precedent as well as the results. I mean Lsupride if we are using your logic shouldn’t Texas and Clemson be unranked?

You’re saying that FSU shouldn’t be ranked high because of last season. And UGA is fine where they are because of last season.

Might it be true that last season isn’t particularly relevant in an era where everyone loses 30-40 dudes a year to graduation/draft/portal?

Again, we know nothing about nothing. Maybe you’d have a point if an unranked team jumped to 10 in November, but if you didn’t have large swings early, you’d have potentially good teams trapped at the bottom because of last season.

He also has Tulane as the G5 in the playoffs because they beat the "mighty" Northwestern.

Probably had more to do with Boise State getting raced

Name 10 teams with a more impressive resume

You're getting downvoted but you're right. That's why preseason polls are so retarded. FSU shouldn't have to "move up" a set of rankings based entirely on guesses. Outside of LSU and Ohio State, there wasn't a more impressive win all weekend. If they're not for real, they'll be exposed and everything will course correct. But right now? I'm totally fine with them in the top 10.

You’re right.

They shouldn’t have preseason rankings at all. That will never be reality, but it should. These big swings basically admit that.

I agree with this. They basically mean nothing except give people something to talk about. 5 weeks is when they should start IMO.

want to preface by saying i dont care where florida state is ranked. id have them really high right now, for sure.

but you can always take it a step further, though.

in your world here that you're creating....after 1 week, how do you know that marshall isnt better than alabama? all we know is they both lost. are you saying that you're going to go by past performance and roster construction to say that alabama is a better win than marshall?

I think the logic is that Miami beat Notre Dame, but they both looked relatively equally matched. Neither team dominated the other, and it was a really fun competitive game. So, Miami didn't move up a ton and Notre Dame didn't drop much.

Should have absolutely nothing to do with rankings this year

If CFB is going to start doing rankings the the way the fans want to see them, this is how it needs to be done. After week one, rank all the teams based on their performances during week one. Your legacy rating (yea, I made that up ) should have nothing to do with your perceived ranking this year

For the AP sure. I don’t think we need to pretend like Joel Klatt has any interest in protecting Alabama

He took my quote out of context.

If you read what I said I prefaced it with “if you must do preseason rankings” indicating obviously I am not a fan of them and am therefore in agreement with most people here:

However that’s never going back to happen. Therefore I think it is totally reasonable to rank based on results and precedence balance ESPECIALLY after only one week of games. Obviously the more games that are played you phase the precedent out, as in by week 3-4 they should be 100% results based.

The problem with LSUpride saying he’d be fine with Clemson being unranked is that then what justification could you possibly make they deserve to be ranked ahead of UGA? Both beat unranked teams in his mind? I obviously stater in my first post I agree with his top three; meaning imo LSU should be number 2, but FSU should be around 15ish and yes UGA and Miami imo should hold the 4/5 spot. I’d give the edge to Miami myself since they beat ND but it’s really irrelevant. UGA will have played Tennessee by week 3 and Bama by week 4
