I liked his story and checked out his website, charging 15% just to donate and then who knows how much goes to the relief.

Youre a sucker if you think his foundation is 100% legit.

He's all about publicity

Where does it say it on his website?

ETA: I didn't see it on his website and I haven't seen his foundation receive one lick of negative press.

Overhead costs, most every charity/nonprofit has them. You don't hit the donate button and then a random victim suddenly receives a bank wire transfer in their account. The specifics will likely be available via FOIA.

I help run the combined federal campaign (cfc) at work in the fall. You'd be surprised how high percentages get on recognizable charities. Your statement is the number one reason I have a hard time getting people to donate though, see it a lot.

The way he talks on screen sounds scripted. About his foundation, I don't know much to say. But I'd rather help my neighbor directly as appose to give it to a middle entity.

It takes $150K to get $850K into the hands of the right people?

Maybe it does...I don't know, but it seems like a lot.

Sounds about right lol.

They have to open special holding accounts, hire lawyers, hire fund managers , etc

I need to open up a charity to skim 30% off the top for "expenses". Not for profits are a joke.

Just donate to the methodist and catholic churches honestly.

I donated to the Southern Baptist site. At least donating to churches we know that they will have to answer to someone if they go to skimming the coffers.

Only 2 charities I trust are Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and The Salvation Army. I've seen them both in action though.

Yeah I am sure there are plenty of great religious charities; however, both of those would have very strict organization rules for how they do things as they are part of larger church organizations.

The majority of these guys start these foundations at the advice of their accountants. They can write off personal expenses on the foundation. Cars, dinners, trips, etc.

God damn man. The 15% tip is something that the website "you caring" requests, and it is completely optional. "You caring" requests tips because they're one of the few websites that doesn't take money off the top of donations unlike other places like gofundme. It has absolutely nothing to do with JJ Watt's foundation. I donated to another cause a few days ago and I paid $0 in tips.

The not for profit threads are always one of my favorites on the poli board. The charities aren't perfect but some the complaints are insane.

People think non profit means no expenses and go ape shite for some reason. My beef with Red Cross is more on how they operate and they probably waste more than others

I changed it to 5% which seems fair. Do you work for free?
