Finishing a fight on the ground is much safer than letting him get up for 17 more rounds to continue to get his head pounded in

Dude most MMA ground knockouts are unnecessary and cringe-inducing to watch. The guy was already knocked out by an elbow, so let’s jump on him and pound his unconscious head for a few more seconds for good measure.

And if you gave those fighters 10 seconds to recover they would get up and continue the fight and get even more damage

In a hold/grapple/tap out, sure.
He's talking about continuing to beat them with your fists and knees while they're defenseless on the ground.

An MMA match and a karate match are 2 totally different things. Forrest griffin’s autobiography explains that to do MMA you have to have a little bit of crazy in you. there is a ton of skill and technicality involved in the sport and an MMA guy would mop the floor with a karate tournament/Kung fu guy no question. I get that it can be to brutal for people, but if you don’t like it don’t watch it. The narrative that “it’s for douche bags or trailer trash” is way fricking overblown. Most people that enjoy it don’t watch to see somebody get their head beat in but to watch how different stylistic fighters match up and how it plays out

They stop the fight when you are defenseless. If a fighter is still protecting themselves on the ground, the fight continues and he is given a chance to continue the fight.
If he turns over and covers, the ref stops it because it’s clear he doesn’t want to fight back.
If he isn’t protecting himself, the ref stops the fight.
As someone mentioned, boxing is actually worse when you get knocked down, you are given time to recover and then the fight continues and more blows to the head are received. Get knocked down again, you are given more time to recover only to get back in the fight and take more punishment.
Boxing may SEEM more humane, but the quick finishes in MMA are actually not as brutal on your body as the sustained punishment in boxing.

I thought Dan Henderson killed Bisping doing this. Dropped Bisping who was knocked out immediately. As soon as Bisping hit the mat, Henderson was already in the air and landed a fricking hammer on his head.
Bisping has been talking shite to Dan and Dan destroyed him. As much as I love Dan, I thought that extra frick you shot would cause at least brain damage.
