A boxer endures waaaaay more shots to the head than an mma fighter, this has been proven statistically for years and years when this argument comes up, I remember reading an article in 2008ish of some doctor on sherdog that did a study and it wasnt even close by comparison. A boxer can get ko'd and still continue to fight if it's a flash Ko and he can get up, and it has also been theorized through NFL concussion issues that the subsequent concussions following the first concussion is where all the permanent damage comes from.

The only dangerous part of mma when compared to other combat sports that allow subsequent knockouts, is the extreme weight cutting aspect, which weakens your brain through dehydration. They are actively trying to fix this issue with the CSAC leading the way with hydration tests. Once they get weight cutting under control, mma will be vastly healthier for your brain than boxing.

Aat the end of the day, both sports have guys getting knocked out, theres a reason no one tunes in to watch guys fight point karate, because it's boring as hell. Good luck jackie.

But hey, ignore the facts, respect the optics; sounds like today's America.

Martial arts are the arts of war and combat......they are intended to be violent.

It’s a common opinion of people in martial arts. They have an issue with martial arts in the name as on of the major tenants of martial arts is respect for opponent.

It would be considered disrespectful to continue attacking someone on the ground from a strike.

Remember when people thought MMA was going to take over boxing and then become a household event? No.. more like MMA and boxing are going to die off at the same time.

What a stupid statement

Bisping has been talking shite to Dan and Dan destroyed him. As much as I love Dan, I thought that extra frick you shot would cause at least brain damage.

Certain martial artists preach all of that romanticized martial arts stuff about respect.

When it comes down to it, you are learning to fist fight. The UFC was started in part by the Gracie Family in Brazil. They were "real" martial artists and competed in UFC 1, which was a no-hold-barred martial arts tournament. They never had a problem with punching while someone is on the ground.

Vale Tudo has been popular in Brazil for 100 years. Vale Tudo competitions are essentially martial arts competitions with very few rules. It's like a more extreme version of the UFC. Martial artists have been competing in those tournaments for 100 years.

What Jackie Chan is talking about is the more hippie side of martial arts. Like many things, there isn't one single philosophy when it comes to martial arts.

Not really sure which way I feel about it, but do you think it's that outrageous to think some in shape dude between 20 and 40 that may have been a fight or 2 in his life could beat up Jackie chan right now? Last time I saw the guy, he was lookin fragile.

Now talking about the fact that you think you could take Jackie chan? Pretty stupid, I agree.

Not shitting on him.

He is a great stuntman and acrobat. He is great at Wushu.....but that does not mean he is a great fighter. Its not like he was a fighter turned actor. His foundation in martial arts is mainly based on Wushu Chinese Opera.

Add in he is 64 years old.

One of the most satisfying knockouts ever to me. Bisping was a douche. in the buildup. I would love to have a beer with Dan Henderson. Not sure if he can still form sentences at this point but seemed like a good down to earth dude.
