All the idiots on FB bitching that Lane and LSU could have waited until after the playoffs to announce he was taking the job. Penn State is the perfect example for exactly why LSU couldn't afford to just wait and go through signing day without having their head coach position filled.

LSU would have been perfectly fine if they waited and PSU will be fine for taking a long time to fill the position. Too much money and talent at both programs to fail too bad and neither rebuild would ever take long.

Program should have been shutdown when the let a Homosexual Child Molester run around their facilities raping kids. Plenty of people knew what was going on but were scared to say anything.

At the time of the firing, everyone assumed they had a plan already based on the timing. Now it looks like it was a knee-jerk reaction.

Another one of their recruits flipped to VT so they're down to 2. I don't believe either have signed.

Penn State is in a world of trouble if they don't pull a rabbit out of the hat.

You’re starting to see the Tomlin time over in Pittsburgh story. I wonder if this is some signaling that he might be available. It allows both Tomlin and Penn State to save face, and I actually think he’d be a great hire there.

Penn State thought the school recruited itself. It does not

this...

how they were the first major program to fire their coach, and they still have yet to get a coach, much less any of the upper tier guys, is astounding... i thought Florida was fricking up their hire, they look like fricking savants compared to Penn St.

Seeing some of the names they were targeting, did they seriously think they could pull Freeman from Notre Dame or Deboer from Bama? That's a big part of their problem, they were aiming too high.

They needed to be more realistic. A coach like Matt Campbell at Iowa State is more attainable.

BK is likely their best fit. But I don’t think he wants to coach.

If he didnt want to coach he would have negotiated a lump sum buyout closer to 25-30 million

But he has to find a job to get his money now

If them covering up their defensive coordinator grooming and diddling little boys didn't do them in, I'm hesitant to say this will. They've handled this about as bad as a firing/hiring could be handled, though.

Couldn't be more happy for that POS school.

There's hyperbole...then there is this post. "Years" to recover?

LSU played a bowl game with less than 40 scholarship players available. The next season they won the SEC West. I'm not saying PSU will play for the Big 10 championship next season. But saying it will take years to recover because they don't have any early signees is absurd

Once upon a time, the state Pennsylvania had the biggest strongest recruits in the Nation. Genetically they were sons and grandsons of strong steel workers who had grownup eating good food paid for by the decent salaries of their Fathers.
I remember older friends muttering about "You can't get recruits out of Pennsylvania, they all want to go to Penn State."

I guess we might thank the NCAA for changing that world. Whether it's for the better or not, time will tell. $$$$$$

WVU just took two of their better recruits. I love my Mountaineers, but the day Penn State is getting looted by WVU it is officially the end times in Happy Valley. The Vandals are in Rome!

You would think they would at least have the money to keep some of the class together. What did they do with all that donor and B1G money? This is going to be worse then when they were put on probation.

Don't kid yourself. So was LSU's firing of Kelly. The only difference is LSU was able to land one of it's only two candidates on the list (the other being Saban). Had Kiffin not accepted LSU's offer, LSU would be scrambling. There was no one on the "list" beyond Kiffin.

I think it was a knee-jerk reaction coupled with misjudging the market. Franklin wasn't "bad" at PSU. He just didn't win big enough for their expectations. That meant they had to land someone who they could guarantee to their booster/fanbase was going to win big. That was going to be a small list to begin with...then LSU and Florida entered the arena.

Now they need a "HR hire" with all of the top candidates picked over. So unless they somehow have a secret agreement with an Elko or DeBoer NO ONE knows about, they are stuck.
